So weird, temperatures must be messing with their biological timeclock.

Sallysmom, at least some of those will be fine, I know Erlicheer requires little chill time, and since N.pseudonarcissus is so well established throughout the south, I think they'll be fine too.

A weird winter for sure! I had been just seeing established bulbs sprouting, but yesterday started seeing some of the new ones poking up.

Marilyn, how fun to see snowdrops now! They even look kind of Christmassy to me! Oddly, I haven't seen any of those emerging yet.

@Marilyn, glad you've got snowdrops blooming! Please share some pics!

David, it's great that you've got all of your bulbs planted. I had plans of finishing planting my bulbs this week, however, the weather is not cooperating. We're in for some severe weather over the next few days.

Its weirdly warm here for the next few days, with storms in the forecast and even chances of tornadoes. As much as I'd love to bypass winter altogether, I am concerned about confused plants.

I agree Neal, this warm weather in late December is concerning. It's affecting the bloom season, and what will spring look like next year.

I'm ready for winter to get here. I keep thinking about all of the plants that aren't getting the chill time they need to bloom effectively.

I'm not looking forward to this severe weather that's being predicted for the next few days Crying

The weather in '16 could be torqued as well if we go from El Nino to La Nina. I think that at least in terms of temperature, this El Nino is certainly at least tied with the worst ever in '97/'98. With the horrendous storms now in the S & SE, this could go down as worst ever overall.

(Those that measure and keep track of El Nino events separate out the temperature and all other "weather". Given that possibly the tornadoes down S & SE could be worst of the season (including Summer which was not that bad) from my angle this is a really bad El Nino = very possibly the worst ever. I served as a weather expert witness for ~ 10 years in utility rate cases and was a member of the American Meteorological Society.)

And yeah - we are gonna have some plants that are really messed up. Same thing that happened in Spring '98.

Annette,

Yesterday I was outside trying to get some things done in the yard and garden and didn't have time to get pics. I'll try to get pics when I can.

While we were out today running errands, we stopped at our local Tractor Supply to get birdseed. DH always waits in car while I shop and as I was leaving, by the door they had fall bulbs on sale. They didn't have much left and I didn't get any, but I'd thought they would've sold out of them before today.

Took photos of Snowdrops blooming and some daffs sprouting on Christmas Eve until batteries died. My coral honeysuckle is blooming and has buds too. I'll try to get some photos of that when I can.

Too late and tired, so click the link that has the photos that I posted in the Mid Atlantic Gardening forum....

I hope that everyone had an amazing Christmas Day!

Marilyn, the snowdrops are adorable, none are blooming here yet.

I finally planted the last of the Renown and Pink Mix tulips yesterday, and 20 Allium Gladiator today, along with some Ruby Giant crocus. I have 100 more crocus bulbs to plant, and I'll finally be done with all of my bulbs.

We had a lot of rain the last few days, and really warm temps into the 70's. The chilly weather will finally return on Thursday, for which I am thankful.

I'm hoping my bulbs will get the amount of chill time they need this winter to bloom properly during the spring. This weather has been so weird!

Glad I got my final bulbs into the ground early this past week. Cause we are gonna have a big change and get a foot or so snow tomorrow.

Weird stuff continues. My Heather is blooming and up the street yesterday I saw Forsythia blooming. And my Butterfly bush is throwing out tons of new leaves.

Otherwise here at least, no established bulbs blooming. Usual culprits (Dutch iris, etc) throwing up leaves, but they always do that in the Fall.

Such gorgeous weather temp wise here, but I thought this was going to make me throw up my hands and say I'm done.

This is the Alabama River approaching my daylily beds. You'll have to enlarge it to see it all. I could just see it covering my new bulbs and rotting them before the water receded. Also getting into my downstairs fridge and let's just wipe out the rest of the bulbs! Fortunately it started receding about midnight and the rain today was sporadic so I don't think it will affect me anymore unless there was a lot going on upriver. Anyway I'm thankful and I have bulbaholic friends that would sympathize! Thumbs up

Ooh, I hope that it keeps receding. We're so sorry that you had to go through that. It's agonizing just seeing it in photo. Group hug

Hope it recedes and upriver ain't no more problem. Living very near the Missouri River (it passes right on the edge of "downtown") I know what problems upriver can cause.

Good luck.

Kabby, that does not look good. We have had a lot of rain this afternoon and tonight, and I know it was headed north, but more to the East. So hoping it had already been by you when it reached here again.

Kabby, hopefully the water will continue to recede, and your daylily beds and bulbs won't be affected.

We had a brief respite yesterday, but more rain and flash flood watches here again today. I had to repair my street bed this weekend, that I had just done, due to a lot of soil being washed away. I'm dreading looking at it tomorrow, after more storms today Crying

At least, I didn't lose any bulbs, thanks to the landscape mesh I placed at the end of the bed, that captured them before they washed away. They were replanted this weekend. I'm going to have to put down a barrier to prevent large amounts of water from going through this bed Sighing!

It appears many of us are living in swamps right now! Even though I'm on top of a hill my feet sink into the ground.

Kabby, thankfully bulbs tolerate a lot of water at this time of year when they have actively growing roots. During summer dormancy this much water could indeed cause rot.

Hi forum peeps. Annette my utmost sympathy with you having to redo your beds. As I watched the water encroach on my plants, I felt such despair. I had worked so hard taking back my yard from years of neglect.
ALL IS WELL! The river crested Mon night and even though water got around my beds it did not invade. Buncha rain today hopefully it won't be a problem.
One thing about a potential disaster, neighbors come out of the woodwork to help move things to higher ground. Yesterday the weather was nice and I dug up a mess of paperwhites. I think I'm going to clean them up and place them in bags on the fence. Hang a "free" sign, share the wealth with my sharing neighbors. Thumbs up
