Changes become necessary for newer devices, newer programs, increased populations. garden.org transition went so very well I was amazed- esp after dealing with DG transitions, having files corrupt from hacking, ads kick me offline and try to rule my internet choices. It was extremely irritating never to know if they would allow you on site or not. Playing with stuff thats new helps you make your choices and remember them better. It also gives you a look at what you may have been missing and didnt know it.
So many roads to take, choices to make, and laughs to share!

Anna, for customizing the home page, I found it easier to clear everything, and then only pull over the few things I wanted.

I can't do it on IPAD but read it thru and it looked easy to do.

I too have found this really frustrating. I thought I had the homepage done, but it took so much scrolling. I have finally got it where it is colorful and I can see most everything by just opening, or a tiny scroll. I nixed that two column stuff, made four columns. I really like the look now, not so much work to go thru everything.

Don't know if changing the homepage is too hard, too easy, or just right. Since I'm a relatively new user, for the most part using the site as is works fine for me.
I will say, and probably have said before, this has been one of the smoothest releases I've experienced. The amount of support and quick responsiveness has been amazing after going through the 'surprise!!' at DG. (and I just started using the site here as the changes were being implemented.)
Sadly, my software on my iphone and imac went thru some changes - dang it! I'm not wording this right - resulted in my needing to reset most of my passwords, few of which I know. After 4 or so days DG finally responded to my request to reset my p/w. Never have I been on a site that didn't have an instant response. And I even said 'please'.
On the other hand, not saying this place is wonderful. But it beats DG.

4 04 5 days is pretty good I would say... responses were slow to come..except the reminder to re-up the subscription..that was on time!

Oh. 1 more thing. Until last week I had no idea that posts made on DG show up if googling something. Probably never looked before. Saw it now by accident. (at least it used our pseudonyms.) Was late at night and dang if I didn't go on a rage!!!
Yes I am aware that there's not a lot of privacy on the internet but I didn't expect to see all of my posts from DG there, even the boring ones.

Um, they don't do that for our posts here, do they?

Yes, it's all out on the web. It's a good reason to use something other than your real name.

Are you referring to our posts aka (in my case) blathering, or just pictures?

Both. If you look, Dave answered your question on the site talk.
I must admit I was a bit shocked when I first noticed that this was the case. It's no problem if you don't give out too much personal information.

Google will even show you your posts from the "private" DG forums, but only if you're logged into DG when you're looking things up on Google. If you're logged out, you won't see those "private" posts.

I found that to be true of a private forum I'm in that is hosted on NING. If I'm signed in, I see all the posts.

@zuzu - not sure what you mean by 'private posts'. I saw posts from DG on google but I wasn't on DG at the time. Or don't think I was. Think I was still waiting for a password reset.

If you're not logged in at DG, you'll still see posts on Google from the DG forums, but they won't be from the forums accessible only to subscribers.

Flowerchild, DG had several offsite forums that didnt post to web - (Back Porch, Parking Lot, etc. ) It did tend to make the forums go silent when people could google their avatars and there the thread was...

Kat,
I remember the first time I found my DG comment page after Googling. Luckily it was only the first page. I don't think you could read all of them. When I read what I wrote I was just glad I didn't sound dumb, lol! I never did care to have 15 minutes of fame.

@billyporter - Unfortunately I have had my 15 minutes and I wish I could take them back.

@zuzu or @anyone or @y'all - one (we hope) last question about our posts and google. If someone is selling or offering something in the Classified, etc Forum, does google broadcast that as well?
At least we have pseudonyms.

Google doesn't "broadcast" it. It's a search engine, it only pops up in a search, if someone specifically searches using words that may be found in the forum or post.
