Our regional group stayed on DG for a while after ATP was created, but eventually moved here. We wanted to all be on one site, not trying to keep up with people on two places... and we preferred Dave's administration as well as "free!"

I post links to articles on DG and other places every so often, because linking to a good, concise, explanation is often better than my rambling on and forgetting half the relevant points. In "early days" I got wrist-smacked, not by admin but by other members here who were incensed that I could even suggest somebody click on DG ever again. That has settled down.

I'm not sure where it ranks in terms of membership and activity vs. other gardening sites, but garden.org is overall the best site I know of. Green Grin!
We're all learners, doers, teachers.

Ok, don't get your hackles up, chuckl- there ARE a few still at DG as well as here, they stay lo key, but I bump into them once in awhile, DG is changing again, I hear all but forums are free, but there is nothing I use there, just haven't left for sake of friends who like the empty halls, chuckl. I enjoy these threads, I enjoy everyone here. My new Iphone gives me half a dozen gardening sites, but NONE of them is this one. Haven't seen anything to lure me away, I just have to watch thread dates, and read around, chuckl.

Thanks for your replies.

I probably won't have time to check out all of the forums and information on either site for several years. I enjoy a little bit at DG because it is slow. If I am gone all week, I haven't missed a lot, and I do have friends there. I have friends in the semp forum on here, and a few in the Texas forum, but I don't even try to follow the Texas one.

I run a small business and it runs me. So there it is. Gardening is my passion but even what I try to grow here is very short time. I used to start tomato seeds. On March first or thereabouts I hit the feed store and buy half a dozen of whatever varieties they have usually trying to find a couple of cherokee purple, an early girl and some San Marzano. (longer producing than Juliette thru the heat -wowed me).

But everything is on the run as I try to earn enough to retire in 3 years....

Welcome to All Things Plants (ATP) which was changed to National Gardening Association (NGA).

I had almost forgotten about DG until this thread popped up as active again! Talk about a trip down memory lane. I didn't much care for what happened over there, so many of us migrated to this site. And I personally haven't looked back. This has been my go to gardening forum site for years now. Thumbs up

First there was GardenWeb, then Dave's Garden...and now we are here. Both GardenWeb and Dave's Garden were bought by corporations. Not the same at all.

Thank you @dave for letting us use this platform for free and without all those annoying ads!!! Thank You!

Don't forget about Cubits which Dave started and where many of us landed at first before Dave started ATP.

I guess the sad thing about Dave's Garden is that many of us built a community and it was very sad to leave it (or have it leave us). I'm another who was here very early.

But I was interested only in the gardening there and have only been back a couple of times since ATP started. It was/is a great deal more than gardening.

Most of Cubits has been abandoned for some reason or another. The iris and dahlia cubits are active. I don't know if there is anyone monitoring the website as a whole. I know that Dave started it, but why was it abandoned?

Most of the gardening areas on Cubits basically moved here (more correctly, to All Things Plants, which then became NGA).

Not a member of DG but do look at The Garden Watchdog since it allows both good and bad reviews of online vendors. Helpful when thinking of ordering from a co. you never ordered from before. Still go to Cubits to keep in touch with a few friends that are still there.

Once Dave started this site, he just became too busy to maintain the codebase on Cubits. It's been unmaintained for around 10 years now and it has aged a lot since then, eventually it will just stop working. I go in there and regularly delete spam in the unoccupied cubits (Sharon's Cubits had been desecrated, took hours to clean them up!) and that's about all that is done now.

Thank you, Sue, for cleaning up Cubits. I go there once or twice a day to check on old friends and that's about it. I never did like the site the way it was set up. Shrug!

There is a quilting gallery under Sharon's Friends cubit. Angie posts there, I have my own gallery thread there too and I also post a few of my finishes in my blog here along with my garden pics.
Barb passed in 2018 and that's when the new Sharon's Friends quilt forum threads were created in Cubits. I had to lock some of the threads on Barb's Cubits to avoid spammers.
