Or why people live in South Texas... everything is dead in the scorching heat of summer, not enough rain in fall, too cold for our tropical grass in winter, so basically we only mow in the spring when it's warm but not hot, and we actually get rain. Rolling on the floor laughing

Living on a large property does have its drawbacks .. as the years creep by, mowing isn't so FUN anymore. Snow removal is a bear when feet of snow falls, and, right now, as I type this, the dairy farmer up the road a couple of miles north of us, is spreading LIQUID MANURE on his fields, and, the wind is outta the north ... PEEE EWWWW.............

our day turned out to be overcast and cool .. I was able to wash a couple of sweaters and hang them on the line ..

Get my winter tires put on tomorrow .. YEE HAW !!!!!!!!!!!!

I agree. When I was a kid we lived near cotton fields. The crop dusters would always come whenever we had the windows open. I always wondered if we were being poisoned because it smelled so bad!

Whew, Karen -- you probably WERE being poisoned! Sticking tongue out The liquid manure just stinks (at least as far as I know...).

We had all kinds of weather today... a little rain, a little sun, a little wind... very threatening-looking clouds, with patches of blue in between. But, the temp got up into the low 50s, and Lake Michigan was calm and on its best behavior today... I'm fairly sure that if I count the days like this that are remaining before wintry weather sets in, I'll still have some fingers and toes left over (for counting on, that is Hilarious! ).

Sandy,
Liquid manure cracked me up! Sad, but TRUE!

James,
Manure stinks and it ruins your day to go outside and have to smell it. When you are surrounded by fields for miles and miles and miles, there is no getting away from it.

Karen,
I figure if you can smell it you are breathing in and getting droplets on you. I go in the house when they swing around and go right over us.

Sandy,
They claim they are knifing it in. They say if you can smell it then the nitrogen is escaping into the air. I say they have more manure than they can use and could care less if some escapes.

We get all four yahoos tonight and we'll eat at Newt's tomorrow. They love that!

Swing my way

Got the blade on the ATV .. now, either that is the harbinger for SNOW, or, it'll keep it away Crossing Fingers!

Re the manure .. the first 15 minutes of 'that smell' wafting around outdoors is pretty groddy .. then it seems you just kinda get used to it .. sure does make stuff grow ..

32F this morning .. but a sunny day with temps reaching 50+
Still have ships in the harbour here, and, will for awhile ..

Marilynn,
It's hard to find the fields they spread it on, to check the progress of the corn and beans. If a farmer sells land for the hog lot he will get manure at a reduced price. We have a fertilizer plant acros the road and eventually they are going to feel the loss of sales. Many in our town petitioned, us included, and talked to DNR, the board of supervisors, DNR again and finally, three years later, we got a two mile fringe agreement. No hog lots within 2 miles. And since the town was never clear on town borders, they needed to establish that. Suddenly, my Dad's barn across the road from his house became city property. I always thught it was cool I could go across the road when I was a kid, and be in the country, lol!

Started out this morning at 77F and slight drizzles leaving the island. Got to work here in downtown by the Bay and it's 72F and not raining at all. It's amazing, the temperature differences between something as small as 16miles. 23miles inland, where my sister lives, it's currently 68F. Forcasted high of 87F today. 20% chance of rain throughout the day.

Supposed to get some storms late Sunday/early Monday ushering in a cold front Thumbs down Gonna get knocked down a peg next week. Highs in the upper 70's and lows in the low to mid 60's.

Chilly Friday morning at 47F. But sun is coming out now, expecting the usual low 70's, back to our dry days. Good for my mostly succulent and drought tolerant plants outdoors, cool and dry, that they can handle well.

We never got those storms they predicted, I'm thinking they are the same cold front that you are talking about James, just delayed. Right now the weather is really fabulous. It's 86°f and 62% humidity at just after noon. It rained at 8am and then the sun came out and I thought the humidity would go sky high but it hasn't. Yay! All the doors are open, we slept without AC or dehumidify last night and it was nice to have all the doors open to the terrace. My favorite season is arriving. Last night our low was 78°f but it is forecast to be only 70°f tonight. Chilly.

Another beautiful day here, despite a rather slow start with a heavy frost; sunny, with a high temp up near 60F (or maybe we actually hit 60, not sure) -- with lots of little dragonflies everywhere when I was out in the garden. I guess it's a little premature to start hoping for this... but a Thanksgiving without snow would certainly make for nice driving!

Sandy .. we hit 65F at about 2pm yesterday .. it was wonderful .. I had had the winter tires installed on my car, and, drove home with the window down Thumbs up
Like you, I keep thinking about U S Thanksgiving, it's around that time that the weather makes a decision..

Sally .. 2 roads east of us by a few miles, have the same phenomenon happening. One side of the road is city, and the other side is country .. and I am not fibbing, but, when snow removal starts, the city does one side of the road, and, the Township does the other .. asinine !!

Another 60+ day on the rise .. clocks go back tonight .. will be darker longer in the mornings ..

Enjoy your day

Not much change in weather for the next week. Low to high 60s and no rain or freeze in sight.
