I had to laugh as I read the post about having far too many and the epi's and blooms being addictive.
I definitely have a problem. LOL As hubby and son set up a cold frame today, I was potting more broken pieces and cutting long straps to make them more manageable as I take over hubby's workshop until my greenhouse gets rebuilt. I just cannot stop making more of them. LOL

Tx Flower Child, We had 3 or 4 nights in the mid 30's and now we are right back to the 50's. It will be this way for a few days and then drop again.

I really like Sheer Elegance and the yellow varieties. What am I saying, I really like them all. LOL
I am loving your pics.
I have all of the epies, schlums, and rhips in the workshop, but really need to put lights in there. I will use the cold frame for some of the hardier things because January and February it will stay colder longer.

A big contrast in temperatures Linda.
We are forecast 38c today,(which I think is over 100f...it's been a long time since we had f).
Epis are only lasting a day so I have to get organised.

Keep those beauties coming! Spring is a long way off in the northern hemisphere...though I did have a couple small, off season blooms earlier this month.

I bet my epis - or all my plants if I'm honest with myself - would do so much better if I actually took care of them. Like feeding them. Watering appropriately. Common things. At least I talk to them even if only to say 'good morning'.

Over the last few weeks I have been starting cuttings in Dixie cups in hopes that the cuttings will root. Last night I was looking at the labels and it hit me that I have a table full of Dixie cups holding cuttings from only 2 epis with just a few 1-offs. Oh well. Time for Christmas cacti now.

Btw, my Reward pic in the previous post...was upside down. Note the way the stamens are hanging.
This one is the correct way up. (This is crucial if you are showing blooms in a competition). (Just sayin'!)

Those are beautiful! What a bloom fix for the off season. LOL, I have moved all of mine into hubby's workshop and I have taken cuttings of some that were just too large. I still have a lot to trim, but I am making progress.
My holiday cacti are blooming now and I am loving those flowers. They are epi's too right?

Thanks Linda,
'Holiday cacti' are Schlumbergeras (or Zygocacti).
They are epiphytic but not Epiphyllums.
They are nice and a good thing to have in winter.
I used to have a lot, but not now as I am concentrating on epis.
Today.

Had some more beauties open over the last few days, these are the best of them:

Thumb of 2016-12-01/Crackle/a9f408
Best Regards, (I hope so anyway). This plant is a reliable bloomer every year and such a nice colour.

Thumb of 2016-12-01/Crackle/890df0
Chorus Girl. I think this one is definitely true to it's label. For me, it flowered when only a small plant and then it produces lots of buds every year, so it's one of my favourites. I love the intense colours on this, pity a snail or something ate one of the petals this year!

Thumb of 2016-12-01/Crackle/633296
First Prom, another favourite, lovely pink. I only get one bloom a year but it's worth it. It's still a very small plant.

Thumb of 2016-12-01/Crackle/634e05
Kiwi Honey Moon, a new one for me and a nice surprise, small but very pretty, lemon yellow outer with creamy yellow inner petals and it produced 3 blooms at once on a very young plant!

Thumb of 2016-12-01/Crackle/56b865
Lemon Custard, a truly elegant flower, MUCH nicer than this pic. It didn't last long this year, so I didn't get a chance to take a better pic in different lighting. Maybe next year.

Thumb of 2016-12-01/Crackle/90cb92
This was supposed to be a cutting of Pink Perfection but it does not look like Pink Perfection to me, so yet another NOID. But I love the shape and the colour of the flower, so it's a keeper too.

Thumb of 2016-12-01/Crackle/f9630b
Lastly, Romantic Night, a new one for me and a lovely surprise. It is much nicer than I expected. I love the shape and the intense colours, so I will be propagating this one too. I have yet to confirm that it matches the official description of Romantic Night - it doesn't look much like other pics of Romantic Night I found on the web. If anyone else is growing this hybrid, could you please comment on this pic and let me know what you think? Thanks.

Well thanks Carl.
Gladyce jones is rated favourite bloom by a couple of growers I know, and yes it does open flat which makes it very photogenic. An ok grower but doesn't exactly jump out of the pot!

Yes Deebie we both grow outdoors under shadecloth...the usual method in Australia.
It can get a bit too wet in winter but works ok.
Mine are almost finished now...but here are a few more.

More epis bloomed over the weekend, including some old-timers and some new to me ones. See images below of the best ones.
Someone in the forum asked if I grow them out of doors and the answer is basically yes, but I also have lots in a large shed with open ends, more in the sunroom which has large windows so lots of light (but in summer it is too hot in there, so I move them out somewhere cooler). Also have lots on the verandah which faces east so they get morning sun but afternoon shade. The rest are under shade cloth in the fernery and the orchid house. I have to confess I have about 170 plants and about another 100 or so named cuttings in big pots which eventually will have to go into individual pots. I have far too many already but I still have a wish list of ones I just have to have. They are SO totally addictive! Sighing!

Achievement, a new one for me and really pretty. Thanks Steve for this one.

Aporo Vivide ,a lovely bloom and nicer colours than the image shows. Also new this year.

Thumb of 2016-12-05/Crackle/508a08
Chorus Girl, a second plant. I made a mistake in the naming of the image I posted last week. Now I don't know what that one was because THIS is the real Chorus Girl, not stripey at all, but very nice intense colours and lasts a long time in a jar of water.

Thumb of 2016-12-05/Crackle/ff2a5c
Clown, possibly my very favourite plant. This same plant flowered in 2011 after 10 years of dreadful neglect and reignited my passion for epis. I have been buying them like a mad thing ever since!

Thumb of 2016-12-05/Crackle/b7dc29
Conqueror, another favourite, flowers reliably every year. It's actually a darker pink than the image shows.

Thumb of 2016-12-05/Crackle/64657a
Kiwi Honey Bright, a second bloom off the same plant which actually does not look exactly the same as the first one, but still lovely.

Thumb of 2016-12-05/Crackle/6531ef
Kiwi Sunshine, another new one and just delightful - had two beautiful blooms open simultaneously on a very small plant so it's going on my favourites list too.

Thumb of 2016-12-05/Crackle/87d0df
Royal Heir, another new one and very pretty, with basically a double cup shape and lots of petals, you can tell one of it's parents is Tassel. Another keeper.

Thumb of 2016-12-05/Crackle/3e616c
Lastly Yellow Delight, a very pretty flower and another new one this year that will go on my favourites list
