Kinkaku is also known as Souvenir De Maxime Cornu. Nice tree peony, but yes, best looked at from an upward angle. Smiling

Is this thread just for tree peonies (not herbaceous peonies)?

CS, this thread is for Tree Peonies. There is another thread titled "Peony Blooms 2016" for herbaceous peonies. Another thread labeled "2016 Itohs/Intersectionals" is for itoh peonies. Hope this helps.

You have been patient , Karen. Nice job on Joseph Rock. That one has some great breeding genetics for offspring that have lovely dark flares!

The rain had ruined all of my Chinese TP blooms. After this experience, it maybe a good idea for me to get a few umbrellas to shade and protect Chinese TP blooms. The only one that withstands this rain is my Joseph Rock TP. I really love this TP. It is so beautiful now that blooms are fully opened. There are two forms blooming on this tree. One is a white semi-double form and one is semidouble form with a puff of pink petaloids in the center.

Thanks for sharing, the puff one looks like a double form.

Isn't it frustrating when weather negatively impacts your blooms, Karen? I know it doesn't kill them, most of the time anyway, but to lose blooms for something you can't control....I feel your pain.

Really wonderful 'Joseph Rock' double form. I'm a sucker for the fuller flowers and this one makes seed as well. I like the pink tinged petals.

Karen, did you get your 'Joeseph Rock' from SongSparrow? I did. Mine finally bloomed for the first time this year and never fully opened. The weather caused that. Thanks for sharing your blooms. They are just lovely.

Thanks everyone! I am happy to hear that it is a good performer, Tracey. Next year, I will let some flowers go to seed. I wonder what I would get if I cross this with Yaezakura which blooms at the same time as the JR TP.

LG, I bought this tree peony from a peony collector and grower who said that he purchased this from Roy Klehm at SongSparrow. So if you bought the semi-double form of the Joseph Rock TP from SongSparrow, then it will be the same as mine. He sold me a division of his TP so that may explain that I get the puff of pink petaloids in the center. The mature stems give me this form but the young stems give me the semi-double form.

My Joseph Rock double came from Klehm's. To be honest, I can't think that I have seen it offered elsewhere.

Slapping a little pollen on there certainly couldn't hurt. Thumbs up

This tree peony was a gift from a local purchase I made 2 years ago. There is no name but it is very pretty. Love the flares coming from the base of the flower. I am glad that the flowers are above the foliage.
