Why is it that all these companies give up that product line just when I get interested? This is one reason I really got gung ho about collecting, as the Jovibarba and Rosularia especially are really difficult to find. You pretty much find really nice Sempervivum around, but not the others. Time to start a new cubit!

A new Cubit or a new Forum ( just for Rosularia & Jovibarba)?
On my above question I have a concern that the above picture is not Rosularia rechingeri. Everything I find when googling is a rosette type plant. In fact so far I have not been able to find a Rosularia that grows in form like the picture above. Any one have help on this?

It looks like a rosularia to me. Perhaps the stems are elongated as the ends of the stems look like they want to form rosettes.

Please don't form a new cubit for Rosularia - it is normally included under the Hardy Hen & Chicks with Sempervivum, Jovibarba, Orostachys, and possibly some others.

Thousands and thousands and thousands. Don't despair, it means your collection can never be complete. There will always be new plants to buy (and more money to spend).

Now if I could just find a way to get "Whirl-i-gig" into the US....

Sorry, Twit - I didn't mean to offend your tender feelings - of course, we'll just have a new thread and keep all the hardy rosette succulents together.

Regarding the growing zones: I have heard that zone 5 in Canada is equal to USDA zone 4 here in the USA. I received this info from my involvement with trees and dwarf conifers.

Thanks, Mike! I think I knew that there was some discrepancy, but not that much. I'll have to remember that little tidbit of information.

I did not know that, thank you Mike. Wonder if I can find an info site on that topic on the internet? If I find one I will put it in the Links in the right side info box.

Edited because I am silly, I forgot to put the link in. http://treesandshrubs.about.co...

I mixed in a bunch of chicken grit. I still need to top dress with the chicken grit. Hope to get that done tomorrow. Thanks for the advice Jacki. Do you get much rain?

Okay, no more begging. You know I will always have them for you. Just start making your list. Lovey dubby
I have the new bed framed up for a shade cloth ceiling. I'll take a picture tomorrow for you. It's cheaper to do this second way, doesn't need as much shade cloth or pipe. Of course I won't be able to sit under it. Sad That's okay I have the one hoop house to sit under. Big Grin

Hi Lynn, as a rule we are pretty dry here, especially through the summer, then for the winter generally we get good snow cover, which of course, all the hardy succulents like just fine.

Right now we're just going into a drought, which is scary as we have had some devastating wildfires in the area - the worst was in 2003, but even last year there were several around B.C. that took a long time to get under control.

Thursday they say if we don't have any rain, there will be a total campfire ban across the whole province. Not that it totally eliminates the risk, as there is still lightening to contend with, but stops the stupids from trying to have a bonfire and lighting the place on fire.

The biggest problem is that most of the forests are dead from the mountain pine beetle, making it almost impossible to stop the fire once it starts.

Succulent plants, luckily, don't burn! Plant lots!

Thanks for the info Jacki. We are also coming into our drought season. However, we do get heavy early spring rains. This year it continued on into June. I am hoping with the amended soil and top dressing of chicken grit the heuffs will do okay this next spring. I'm not worried about most of the semps, as they seem to handle it okay. Although I do have many new varieties this year and not sure how they will do with all the rain come next spring. Time will tell. If things get to bad I can always cover the hoop house with plastic until rainy season is over.

Do you find the heufellii need more moisture? I'm new at them too, so I don't know what they'll need. They're not getting any extra moisture, so too bad. They look absolutely fabulous, by the way, so they must not be too thirsty. I don't have any water to spare, that's why I'm growing these kinds of plants Hilarious!

I only just planted all the ones in the wheelbarrow late last summer, at which time they did get a bit of water, then whatever they could get through the very wet fall, and then snow over the winter. We had a wet spring, up until early June, when it dried out again. Typically we have a dry fall, but that has changed a bit in the past few years. The worst is freezing rain, or thaw then freeze again throughout the winter. If it does that, I can expect to lose plants that normally are perfectly hardy.
