Sorry you lost one of yours, Mary Stella. I think we ordered the same thing. One of mine came up great, the other is barely showing growth. Even though they're in part shade I have them in a dry spot, seems to do well under pines.

I know I've received some mis-id'd roots from GW but they've been years past. I got one of my very favorite NOIDs from them years ago. I divided it 3 falls ago now and kept 3 large roots for myself, none of them bloomed the last 2 springs. THIS is the year, though!

Working lots of long shifts this week then going to Texas to visit a very sick friend. I turned her on to Chotkowski Gardens on Facebook, now I think we're going to take a trip up (from Texas) there! I'll post lots of pics if we do!

My one bloom on Hanakisoi this year, but the plant is going only on it's second year. I was surprised to get a bloom on a tree peony this early in it's life.

Your Hanakisoi is lovely! I am glad it gives you a bloom in spite of its young age. They are such pleasing plants. I love Japanese tree peonies.

Are you sure its " Hanakisoi"? TomThumb,
It looks like" Yachiyo Tsubachi. (Eternal Camelias)" to me with the smoky bronze foliage, I'm not really sure too because I didn't grow one, but I remember that bronze foliage from somewhere, it's so different that others, so it has been on my wanted list.

Yan, thanks for pointing that out. Thumbs up I think you might be right. I bought two of these tree peonies from a regular plant nursery and they were labeled as Hanakisoi, but their foliage has been this lovely purplish hue the whole time. It seems like having them in full sun increases the purple color to the leaves. There also was no sweet smell that a Hanakisoi should have, but I thought that was on account of it being a young plant. Is Yachiyo Tsubachi the only pink flowering tree peony with leaves that stay this color all summer?

This is the same plant a few days later in the full sun. The sun really wreaks havoc on the bloom, I meant to move it to a shady location for viewing sooner.

Is the foliage turn to darker bronez in the fall? As far as Japanese variety goes, that will be the only pink variety with lovely foliage like that. And your flower is more coral pink than "Hanakisoi".
At least yours turns out pink, my "Hanakisoi" that I brought from a local nursery turns out to a single red TP, so I never buy TP from those guys anymore, too small of the lawn for variety that I don't want.

Tom, that's an impressive flower for a 2 year old plant! You're going to be happy with that one in the future! I really like the color of the foliage as well, going on the wanted list!

Karen, I LOVE the bits of green in your tree peony! It just went on my wanted list!

Annette, Buckeye Belle is one of my favorite dark peonies and yours is a perfect example of it!

Gorgeous blooms Karen, Clint and Tom.

LG, I love the way you captured the rich color of Buckeye Belle!

I do love Buckeye Belle, mine only had 1 bloom this year. I planted a second one several years ago that was a no show last year. I have a peony that is just emerging now, and I'm hoping this plant is BB. It has a bud, hopefully it will bloom.

BB is one I purchased for the botanical garden and it is in their research beds now. I don't think it has popped yet but it will. Of the 13 or so we planted in pots in the ground, seven have sprouted including two of the trees. I told Will he should put a pot on the trees as I noticed that the little growth pips were a little blasted with our late frosts. Hopefully we are mostly past those.

I went up to In the Country Garden and Gifts yesterday to pick up a hosta I had ordered last December. Well, Josh knows my weaknesses and I came home with the Itoh peony Joanna Marlene and the Martagon Arabian Knight. Whistling LOL
