Thanks, Bonnie. I measured the purple NOID as being 20-23" tall. Haven't measured this one yet, but expect a similar ballpark.

I think your Mom's "purple" looks like Crimson King
http://wiki.irises.org/Ib/IbCr...
"CK" and Kochii are very similar, though...so I'm pretty sure it's one, or the other, of them.

I second the Kochii id as I have lots of it also. I have given it to lots of iris friends and it is always my first to bloom here in Zone 6.

Hurray! Hurray! Hurray! Bloom season has begun. I have no idea what your white NoID is though.

The description for Crimson King on Twiki states "The veining is boldly spaced on the whitish outer haft, while those on Kochii are not so prominent." I cannot tell them apart from the images I've seen.

Thanks all. I cannot see a difference between Crimson King and Kochii either! I'll clearly need to grow one or both to confirm the ID.

Had another look this morning and noticed what looks like tiny sparkling spots on the bloom. Is this what is commonly known as "diamond dusting"?

Unless that is dew? If not, it sure looks like diamond dusting to me. Thumbs up

Thanks :)

I don't think we had any dew this morning, but will check again tomorrow to confirm.

See if this is helpful in indentifying your purple as Crimson King. Mine blooms very early, then reblooms sporatically... I've had blooms in January, February, March, June, and probably some months that I didn't photograph.

Thanks Sherry. Much appreciated. The beard on your 'Crimson King' appears to have yellow tips much further out than my purple NOID. I'll be able to do another check soon, though, as another few blooms are coming.

joe, this one looks similar? it has diamond dusting, and is a rebloomer.

it's called 'saxon' a byers creation. mine doesn't have the ring around the falls as yours does.

Thanks, Daphne, mine sure looks pretty close to the pics and description on the Iris Wiki. When I clicked on your pic, I could see the falls being; "white, narrowly edged light yellow" as in the registration description. I took several pics and in some, the yellow edge doesn't show as well as others. It took a day or two before I found the light just right for the "Diamond Dusting" to catch my eye. It is pretty neat when it does, though!

Next year I'll have to see if I can find some to grow next to mine to verify it as Saxon.

joe, i think it looks more like 'total recall' than 'saxon to me, too. 'saxon' somehow lacks the brightness, and glow that 'total recall' and your noid have.
