I am not a baker. I had to go by a bundt pan for this recipe and nearly all the ingredients. I didn't even have milk! But I couldn't pass this one up! Crossing Fingers! I am making one for us tonight to try, giving half to my neighbor. If it turns out well, I will bake another for a new friend who is going to take me to BINGO for my firs time. IN ANCORAGE! Thumbs up If it doesn't turn out I'll buy her a T-shirt. ha! Rolling on the floor laughing

I think these photos prove I'm not a baker! It started overflowing right from the start. It smoked up my kitchen.
Thumb of 2016-06-22/ShadyGreenThumb/380193

The cake continued to over flow in my clean oven for most of its baking time. Then it wasn't anywhere near done when the timer went off.
Thumb of 2016-06-22/ShadyGreenThumb/d9a768

Ok, so i went and tested the cake after it was in the over for 2 hours?! It just kept overflowing like a volcano! (why???) I used a piece of spaghetti. It broke in the cake!! Rolling on the floor laughing *Blush* Crying Some where in the cake is a half cooked noodle! Who ever finds it has good luck the rest of the year! Rolling on the floor laughing

I havent cut into it yet but from what I've tasted, that 1-1/2 C. Butter and 2 lbs of briwn sugar sure tastes good! I'll do better tomorrow with the actual gift cake now that I've practiced.

It called for 2 CUPS of brown sugar. I've made that cake.........oh, gads, it was yummy. I didn't make the glaze for it, tho. I figured with no glaze i could have another piece or 3 and suffer the same ramifications had I had 1 piece WITH glaze. Rolling on the floor laughing

My recipe is 3 plus 3
With heavy cream

I skip the glaze too but I have been known to lay a thick bead of local honey or ghiradelli chocolate in the middle of the batter as I fill the bundt pan.

But..it is hidden and so no calories! Rolling on the floor laughing
That is how it works...right??

The butter and sugar coalescing at the top makes for a very sticky crunchy top anyway...no glaze needed.

Cheryl -- that must have made quite a mess in the oven! Blinking Were you using a 12-cup Bundt pan? (I have a couple of different sizes...)

We have to make lemonade from lemons....

Even after that oven is cleaned ( and that will clean off pretty good ) the next few times you bake...you will smell it. Not bad, eh? It is not fattening that way!

I make one a month...slice it thin into 28-30 pieces..wrap each in foil and freeze. It lasts almost a month...not if the grandkids find it.

The recipe has never failed. I sometimes put half the batter in the bundt..then lay cinnamon, honey, chocolate, whatever on that layer and fill it the rest of the way with the batter.

I am 63 and made my first last year... There were some overflow messes for sure and a failed chocolate pound..but once I found this recipe I stuck to it. Takes about 20 minutes to shove it together and an hour or so to bake ..but when it is done...it is done for a month and I get a piece or two out of the deal!

Cheryl, that recipe sounds awesome ... I've copied it to save! I love pound cake and that Brown Sugar/Caramel one really sounds great so I must try it! I think I have a 12 cup Bundt pan but I might just use my baby size loaf pans to have enough to share.

I'm glad I practiced. And who knew bundt pans weren't standard?! When i poured in all the batter, it looked too full. I thought, " Well, it is a pound cake and they are usually dense so..." and shrugged it off.

So, @plantladylin, use your normal 2/3 full pan- gauge when filling your pan with the recipe. If you are lucky enough to have a pan big enough to use all the batter this cake will be huuuge because it's big enough in my not so big pan. I'd double the nuts and toast them before using but that's just me. I'm sure extra toffee wouldn't hurt either. Lol.

Its a Keeper! Thumbs up Here's the gift cake and the impromptu second gift cake my GF gets.

You all are so kind. I do like the taste. And it was a labor of love-emphasize "labor". But I know why I dislike baking so much. Not only do you have to be exact with the measurements, especially the leavening, but there are so many variables that can affect baked goods. Everything from an uneven oven, to the level of humidity can change things. I always practice when I make something for the first time. I have a few tried and true things that always comes out right. @missingrosie yes! I would love to add your forgiving bundt recipe to my collection.

And the dishes! Measuring cups, and spoons, liquid measure, bowls, beaters, spatulas, spoons, cake pan, cookie sheet to catch the mess, cooling rack, serving plate, parchment, foil, spaghetti ( Rolling on the floor laughing ), what a mess. I think I'll stick with cooking and a little of this and a little of that. And a pot.

Once many years ago I got a recipe for delicious cut out cookies. But my dough turned out wet. By the time I added enough flour to work with it the cookies came out tough. So my neighbor who gave me the recipe came over to watch what I did wrong. I made three batches in front of her. I did nothing wrong. That is just what happened at my house with each and every batch! I never made those cookies again.

Once at Christmas time I vowed to make the perfect Chocolate Cookie. With the help pf Baking911.com (yes there is a site for Bakers like me!) I used many popular recipes. Soften the butter, kept the butter firm, refrigerated the dough, didn't refrigerate, used large eggs, used medium eggs, room temp. eggs, cold eggs, sifted the flour, didn't sift the flour, middle of the oven, back of the oven, . All and I mean ALL my attempts failed. Flat thin cookies, tough cookies, dry cookies, gooey cookies. Sighing! Picky! Picky! Picky baking!!! No worries. I don't need the calories.

And I can't make Jell-O either! I am the joke of my family where a Jell-O dessert can be found at almost every gathering. I think they do that to taunt me. I have received countless Jell-O recipe books. I just give them away.

But! This girl can COOK!!! Thumbs up
