Thank you everyone - you are magnificent.

First time ever flowering in the garden - another of Bron's gifts. TROPICAL HEATWAVE.

I am a sucker for orange and yellow. I know people of the Northern Hemisphere think such colours are common because these hues run wild. But they are fetching down here and unfamiliar.

Two clumps of SPACECOAST RUFFLES up and running today.

It is interesting, Donald, about the first blooms. I suppose it is like learning to drive or something. The gears don't go into place easily but with a bit of practice you get it right it is easy sailing from then on.

(added later: was that a mixed metaphor?)

A lovely feast Glen. No blooms on my THW or PP. They should both keep blooming lots.

Scapes n buds everywhere but taking a long while to mature. We are still having cool nights, about 9 deg F cooler than the nearby airport right on the coast. I like it cooler.

Last bloom on BLACKBERRY JACK for a while. It is not a dark yellow, but it was today only a tiny bit deeper than the pics. Also was larger bloom last year. Tomorrow I will cut off the scape which has rust on it. Visible in second pic.

2 clumps of MARCIA FAY were blooming. I shld have nipped off the old bloom, but wanted to show the bigger clump is blooming every day now. no rust on it. It really is a clear mid/deep pink. Think it got me hooked on daylilies.

Glen all your daylilies look like they have good substance to them! The coloring is very nice! Good job! Do you grow your glads for the garden or for cutting?
Bron Blackberry Jack is so dreamy looking with a good eye! That Marcia Fay is simply gorgeous! I can see why she hooked you on daylilies! Good job! Glad it is cooler for you!

I do the gladies mainly for the garden, Rose. But if it is windy I will cut them for the vase.

Drooling LOVE that Cool Runnings and Brave Kemo Sabe! I think I will have to add those to my want list if they are available here. Love the Tropical Heat Wave and Linden Belle as well!! Nice yellow seedling as well.............

So, how big are these scrub turkeys??? Are they edible ...... Thanksgiving is coming up! Smiling He could do some down under celebrating just because the turkeys were handy! Rolling on the floor laughing Sounds like big birds if they make nests that large!!

My niece lived in Australia for a couple of years and know that they have a lot of import restrictions. Are you able to import daylilies?

Hello Gen, they are very large. About the size of a smallish turkey. The nests can get to 20X7 feet. Gardeners can go crazy when they go to work and come home to find the garden, including the contents of pot plants, heaped up down the back of the house. A friend of mine uses mirrors at the chosen nest sites so the birds think a turkey is already there.

Alas, restrictions are tight for importing seeds and plants into Oz. Since rust, there has been a slowing of importing because of these restrictions and costs.

Here is another BRAVE KEMO SABE for you from this morning.

I moved it this year and the fingers are crossed it gets another fan after 3 seasons.

Last night, I accidentally set the alarm to 5.30pm instead of AM. My bees had ran off with most of the pollen before I made it down to the garden.

Becky, I think SC Color Scheme is resistant.
Ash Rosie, alas, is susceptible.

Interestingly, Ash Rose is a defined colour. From Websters:

"Definition of ash rose
:  a variable color averaging a grayish red that is bluer and paler than bois de rose, bluer and less strong than appleblossom or Pompeian red, and bluer, lighter, and stronger than livid brown."

But what attracts me is the graduation of colour from the throat, greenish to yellow to orange and then to an indented, ghostly watermark before ash rose. On the sepals the bases are almost white.

Click on the image. It is like a feather from some exotic parrot species.

I tend to think variable weather along with maturity cause a lot of it. For that reason I think it's not necessarily always something the plant will outgrow because the factor causing it is not really in the plant. And even maturity is not proof against it either. A week of really cold weather or a week of really hot weather while the scapes and buds are growing wouldn't exempt a plant because of its age. Would it? Easy sailing might not be the case then. Just because you drive well on a paved highway in late spring doesn't mean you would be able to drive equally well when the roads get iced over. Or washed out. Or on muddy unpaved surfaces. A plant that could shift all those gears would be nice, but there may not be all that many that can manage it. A new seedling, unfortunately, has little to no experience. Big Grin
