Bron--your blooms are exciting, too! It is all about location, location, location! I know I find Australia fascinating and exciting! I think alot of people at NGA do, too. When I was younger Hilarious! I remember learning in school how unique Australia is. Love your wildlife. Great photography skills on those beautiful blooms. I feel serene just looking at Tuscawilla Tranquillity. May an overabundance of blessings surround you!

Bron, it is great to see your blooms starting. I think this is going to be a bumper year for you.

Is it a bird? Is it a plane?? No, it a native stingless bee running off with your genetics.

DALRIADA flowering for the first time this season.

My native bee hive now means I have to be out of bed very, very early. The bees steal the pollen very quickly.

What's a bee to do? They collect pollen on the hairs on their legs. Maybe if you provided your bees with razors to shave their legs, you would not have this problem. nodding Hilarious! nodding Then you could sleep in! Hurray! Both of those daylilies are so bright and cheerful looking. Hidden Riches just looks so nice and substantial! May joy, hope and peace surround you!

Dalriada and Hidden Riches looked so similar I decided to try to trace their parentage. I found that they both have My Darling Clementine on their pollen side a couple of crosses back. I like the substance on HR better than Dalriada, but they both have that wide ruffle, which I love Thumbs up

A body has to get up pretty early to beat those bees to the pollen!

Glen, you could try bagging the buds you know will open the next day & that way you could get to the pollen first. Organza bags should do the trick. I'm assuming you don't want pollen from every single dl bloom in your garden every day, therefore there should be plenty left un-bagged for the bees to harvest from.

Yes, I should have got in and ordered the bags earlier. I just didn't realise how good my bees would be at denuding anthers. Never too late though. I am harvesting and freezing pollen for the moment.

That was good researching Vickie. HIDDEN RICHES is thicker substance and a rounder tighter bloom too.

I wish I could get hold of Nunan's notes for his breeding but apparently they were not kept by the family after he died. He was strictly goal orientated but only had a small suburban garden. I wonder where he was going with HIGH ENDEAVOUR and DALRIADA.

Thank you all for the kind comments. I am desperately trying to water pots as we have had sunny days and wind. I am still carting around barrowloads of fill. A kind neighbour who got much more than me offered to move mine with his bobcat, but I am doing layers of bigger rocks, clay, then compost, then black sandy stuff.

I have enjoyed looking at the lovelies on the rebloom thread while waiting impatiently for something to bloom. Other things like snapdragons, larkspurs and petunias are all flowering nicely. And now my Louisiana iris are established, they have been coming out. Great to have floewrs before it is too hot.

The yellows say to me "It's great to be alive today". Poor bees trying to make some honey Glen. How can they resist. Have to head off the moths on the nocturnals. You can buy various sized organza bags from most craft, cheap/discount shops. They are used lots for potpourri/lavender as well as celebration gifts. You might find a cheaper source in time.

Ann and Bron, I tracked down a Organza site online in Australia. There was a sale on and I bought 50 oblong ones which, hopefully will be enough.

I slept in to 8am this morning. Not a grain of pollen was in sight.

No firsts today. Lots of lovely blooms in parts thereof, though.

The rain came through about midday. I was hoping for a bit better fall but the clouds parted round the island again.

Second flower for this seedling. I did a few crosses with the first bloom but none took. It would have helped if I remembered the bleeding obvious that it had to be diploid.

Glen-- What a nice hippeastrum! It looks like a yummy shade of pink. Is it that bright of pink in real life? What is its name? Nice combo on the rose and coleus. That is a beautiful seedling. The eyes on your daylilies really make them stand out. The vibrancy of the yellows is another eye catcher. May your day be filled with wonder and awe, and joy!
