PURPLE RIOT is getting close to finishing opening all of its 17 buds today.
Behind it, Sharon, yes, it is quite a beautiful lily, Hippeastrum DRAMMY.

I agree Glen. All looks luvverley. Hope your blooms did not suffer too much from the wind today. Pretty scarey. Lots of gusting over 50 km/hr. I am lucky to have trees on the western side which is where it was coming from today.

That hippy sure is a lovely shade and form. They are such stalwarts. I have some seedlings about to flower. Probably red.

Today I had FFE of MAGNIFICENT HUMMINGBIRD. I think it looks better in pics than in person. Hope the petals are wider in future. But it is still in a pot so am lucky to have any flower. The colour was less bluish than I thought it would be and is more like the middle pic. A wonder they aren't blurry as I had to hold the shutter button down so long that I gave up and moved it. Camera is mental when the light is not bright.

Bron-- glad you are okay from the high winds. That is a pretty daylily, hopefully it cooperates with you. Is it one that you have to threaten or one that responds to kind suggestions? Hilarious! I find most of my daylilies have to be threatened to perform. I would prefer to grow those daylilies that like kind suggestions. But they kindly suggest to me, please do not grow me in the Texas sun! Hilarious!
May you be blessed with a safe and wonderful weekend!

Ginny, this is our "fix" during the winter time. Isn't it fabulous that we can enjoy the dl's of OZ all winter long (our winter that is)?

Hi Ginny
I know the problem. Even though I have injured my knee, I should not be sitting here. I foolishly used my foot to throw aside a rake that had fallen down. Seems to have thrown out my patella. SO I have to have intermittent rests.

The sun is getting hot here again although we have had nights alternating between 68 and 38 deg F. But sadly I think that's the end of our cool weather. Very dry here but can't complain about our weather when down south they are having flooding rains.

Today I had FFO on MARCIA FAY. It has a delightful fragrance. It is very rust resistant. But so was the big NOID behind it until recently. I tried to reduce the brightness but will have to maybe stop using Auto on the camera.

Another not very good pic of a not very good bloom of MAGNIFICENT HUMMINGBIRD. I have now put it in a wheelbarrow of water to have a big drink. Glen your MH must be about to flower???

Hi Bron, what is the white flower in your photo? Keep in mind that you have lots of things there that many of us haven't seen before, and
we want to see as much as you can show us!

The flower you enquire about is probably an over exposed pale pink gerbera. It is not a garvinia gerbera which are great long lasting cut flowers. But even though it is clay with a little compost/horse manure underneath it, it does well as it is on a slope. Gerberas do surprisingly well here. Very long flowering. I even have seedlings from many.

Behind it is a leaf of a globe artichoke which I would grow for the lovely form silver grey foliage. It constantly dies back and regrows but we had some small tasty g a from it. Really better suited to mediterranean climates than our sub tropics.

Below MARCIA FAY is a low growing white evolvulus. The bright blue flowered one is more commonly grown. They are easily propagated from cuttings or layering. But not invasive.

Bron, no scape on the hummer yet but quite a few of your other presents have scapes coming through. I missed today in the garden. Kaspar my cat ate my blood pressure capsule this morning. He is in a mainland hospital on a drip. They think he is going to pull through but there is a possibility of kidney damage. I am very sad. I only put my tablets on the kitchen bench for a moment.

I am so sorry to hear of Kaspar's mishap. Animals and children are like that. They eat things that are dangerous. I hope he is soon fine with no permanent damage anywhere in his body. Smiling

Bron,
I have a couple of those types of Gerberas in my garden also, and I love them. They are taller than the kind that you can buy nowadays, and reliably come back year after year in my zone. Their leaves are also more elongated with a sort of irregular edge. I have pink, yellow, orange, and white. I have probably had them for twenty years.

Glen,
I hope Kaspar recovers quickly. It is so hard when our pets are ill Group hug
We have a new kitten (we lost our beloved Persian at 16 years old earlier this year) and we had to spend time making our house baby-proof again Smiling My husband dropped a handful of medicine and she was after it before we could grab her. Luckily, she didn't scarf any down! I will post some pics of her on the sandbox forum.
