So sorry for your loss JB. Our dear old Buddy isn't doing well, either.

So I just don't seem, to do well with Begonias but I have several outside in the flower beds this year and they look great.

dwarf dark leaf red growing in a shady bed next to an old Azazel.

Hardy Begonia, First year for these I have two of them hope they will return next spring.

Holly those begonias are gorgeous! Wish I could get away with planting some outside...but they'd shrivel up pretty quickly I think. :/

We can grow the one Holly has in the first photo, here in Phoenix, AZ, even in our heat. But it has to be in bright shade, and does very well there. I've never seen any of the rest growing here. I'm assuming they need more humidity.

Sure wish I did as well with the ones I keep in the house. Really I just don't think they get enough sun. I have a lot of large house plants and a lot of glass, but because the begonias do well in the shade I put them farther back in the room where they get light but not sun. I did have one that lasted for years. It was an angel wing and my son named it Flowery. It sat right where I have my African Violets. I haven't had much luck starting them from leaf cuttings either. I have been given several large and beautiful leafs and I never get them to grow.

Must be the season for begonia's to bloom! My angelwing begonia just started blooming too. Love the shooting star look of the blooms. Here is a pic.

Alan - that's my Favourite begonia - it's really an old fashioned "Cane-like" one, and I've had soooo much trouble getting them, but now I have 2.
Lee Ann - for some reason that I can't fathom, the piece I broke off to root has lost all it's leaves and is just now getting roots (baby ones!).
As soon as it's gotten enough roots I will send it to you. By then it should have some leaves again.
Y'know, it's been in water (without it going dry or anything) for about 1 1/2 months now...... so I hadn't forgotten you, I'm just stymied as to why the silly thing is going through this "stress" which it obviously is. Blinking Confused

So sorry for your loss of your companion Barney. Hugs and prays to you.

I have the reiger begonia which is a cross between the wax begonia and something. I rescued them. Apparently too much water is a problem and now I can only hope the soil dries out quickly before they are no more. Is there anything I can do to help them survive? Actually I don't know how to properly take care iof these plants. They were in need, so I figured I'd try to help them.

I have some kind of rex begonia which has bloomed one blossom so far.

The purple in the foreground is not a begonia but an oxalis/Shamrock Plant. It is pretty, isnt' it? It has tiny whilte flowers. Find them in the nursery in the Spring, around St. Patrick's Day. The good news is, I have a purple Begonia so they do exist. Mine is rooting right now. But it is a NOID. Got the cutting from a good friend of mine. One is purple with purple back. The other is deep purple with green back. Will post pics in a moment.
