These two are always blooming and I am so pleased with that. I hope I can start some cuttings from them eventually.

Hi everyone - I have a large leaf cane begonia which hasn't bloomed this year, but I'm hoping it will again. The leaves have returned big, strong, and full on top. It's a beautiful plant, which I've loved since my Dad planted it. He passed away 30 years ago this Dec 12th. Lovey dubby

Hey Lee Ann!! ltns!

Yeah, this begonia has a cascade of pink flowers, and last year it was very prolific. This year, we've moved twice and I know it got a little shocked and lost most of it's leaves. They came back, with a vengeance, and I'm hoping when we move back that it will get it's blooms back Whistling

So glad someone resurrected this thread. What's the difference between wax begonias and rex begonias? If I can find a way to hang a florescent light, I may try to turn my laundry room into and *also* houseplant room. (It currently online has a very small north facing window, and already crowded, but wall shelving might work.) Houseplants that can go outside in the spring after frost and back in for the winter. I was drooling over some of the leaf patterns on the begonia photos here.

Hi Kayleigh, I was reading on Wikipedia for info regarding your question and it seems that begonia societies have come up with these terms and that there often is crossover of characteristics, like leaf size, shape, textures, wiki doesn't clearly state what a rex begonia is.
In my mind I think of them as having larger leaves and less dramatic flowers. Wax begonias are one of the different types; rex, wax, hardy, cane stem, rhizomatous.
Hope that helps I tip my hat to you.

My cane begonia I always thought was a Rex (it's what my Grandmother called it, also Angel Wing), but it has large leaves and very showy flowers, so Greg - what do I made of that? The flowers are deep pink and cascade down - what I consider "showy" and has very large man-hand-sized leaves

I think a Wax Begonia is one that you can purchase outdoors for a landscape plant (although some do grow them as houseplants). I believe that a Rex Begonia are those really fussy houseplant begonias. Hilarious!

Yes agree, the Wikipedia article specifically put the angel wing in wax begonia, even though it does have leaves that look like a rex, and tall canes Shrug! it is confusing

I just found this thread. I'm loving seeing all of the begonias. I only have one right now, but definitely need more. Big Grin
Here is my one and only. It's amazed me by blooming constantly for months. It's probably just a common one. I got it at a big box store.
