Dogpack,
This is the green/rust on top/purple on the underside. It is common to trim the leaves of rooting begonias to help it root faster since so much of the plant's energy goes into the leaves. So this plant start has been trimmed back. You can just see the underside of the leaf in the center of the picture This is a cane begonia and the mature plant leaves are huuuuge, as are the flowers.

This is another cane begonia but smaller in general. Gorgeous purple leaves on both sides with a lot of ruffling.

They seem to be taking root and growing. Wish me luck as we are having a hot spell in Texas. I hope they both grow big and strong for me to pass on to others,

Cheryl that bottom one is gorgeous!!! I love the bias on the leaves - that is coloration and not just the sun reflecting?

Heading to my favorite tropicals nursery tomorrow. Can't wait to see the new things they're trying. I set up my mini greenhouse on the front porch in preparation. Big Grin

That is the color of the leaf. That photo was taken in full shade. The leaves are really a bright plum-colored when they first emerge and very shiny.

Have fun at the nursery. Try not to break the bank! Rolling on the floor laughing

Awesomely wonderful!!!! Thumbs up Hurray! Drooling Drooling I hope sometime to have these purple brgonias and any other purple ones which may exist. I have a begonia rex or possibly cane something, not very familiar with begonias yet, which has bloomed pink flowers. The leaves are kinda ruffled and dark green I think shink, and big for the size of the plant. This so far is my version of knowledge about these plants.

Does anyone know about the rieger begonia which is a wax begonia something cross. The leaves are going dry or something like that for some reason. I rescued them and when they arrived home they were soaking wet. Apparently they got too dry then were soaked. One fell apart and I cut it at an angle dipped it in rooting powder, and placed it in soil because I wasn't certain if water would finish the rotting process. I tried to root wax begonia in water and it didn't survive, so now I'm lost when it comes to propagating these plants.

I've very much enjoyed all the pics and information about these plants, thanks everyone Group hug

Shady is right the purple is not a begonia. I was showing the pic to the right corner. That one is Escargot Begonia.

Cinta, some begonias root from the leaf, others root from a leafless stem, while others are tubers.

Happily picked up a new addition today. I forgot to ask the cultivar name, but it looks like a fibrous and has neon green on the leaf and hairy stems. I'll have to take a few pictures tomorrow.

I finally got pictures of the mother plant of my big-leafed red and green cane begonia babies. So far so good, but rooting is slow. Too slow for my lack of patience! LOL

Love everyone's Begonias!! I was on a Begonia kick about five or six years ago and seeing all these great photo's makes me want to grow a few again! I only have a couple of Begonias now ... an unidentified Rex type that grows in a terrarium and Begonia Gryphon and another cane type just barely hanging on in containers on my deck. I lost a lot of plants to winter freezes in 2009/2010 and 2010/2011. These are old pictures except for the rex type in the first photo.

I started these little ladies from cuttings a few months ago. The mother plant blew over in a storm early in the Spring and I just stuck the cuttings in pots. I kept watering them with the other plants in the GH and there are about 6 of them. . I am thrilled because I never tried cuttings with them before.

They are Begonia 'Tea Rose' babies. Just happy and healthy as they can be. I put them up on eBay and on ATP Classified as a special for August because I do not have room for them when they get too big. nodding
