threegardeners said:OMG! I * must * have * Rex * Begonia * Vine!!

Lee Anne, if I'm able to keep it alive through the winter I might try to "sneak" a piece across the border! Whistling When I first started experimenting with concrete I made this plaque using the original Rex Begonia Vine. Inexperience and clumsiness ruined it before I even got a chance to paint it. Here's the few that are on the front deck... 'Gryphon' that I found at Home Depot in June.

A "noid" I picked up in Maine in July
Thumb of 2011-08-19/rcn48/e2aeac
Another find in Maine, no tag, but I grabbed it because I was pretty sure it was B. 'Benitochiba', one I bought years ago at Logee's. The first one actually fared quite well through its first winter but I lost it the second winter. Sad Another NOID behind it was another surprise which accompanied the Rex Begonia Vine from DH's Michigan trip in June.

The piece of Begonia I'm sending ThreeGardeners isn't a vine, it's a tall plant - Cane-like, so it would be wonderful if you could send her a vine, too! As she and I are both in Canada, no problem, but I'm sure you can send a piece over, of the vine - as long as it doesn't have dirt in the pkg - just a wet towel around the rooted part, in a plastic baggie! I'm not sure how you would label it........ ?! Please let me know as I'd like to "share" with some of my US friends..... Lovey dubby

Well I'm sure I'd have plenty of cuttings to share. DH has the unforgiveable habit of whacking everything back when they come inside for the winter. Grumbling

Thank you Christine. I am waiting for them to fill out a little so that I can put them in their own pots. I forgot to check the labels on the 3 begonias. One of them I do know for sure is a Beefsteak begonia.
My soul he refreshes.

I told you guys I was getting the Seattle Twist Begonia. It arrive today. A nice healthy plant.

I was pleasantly surprised when a Anne Anderson Angel Wing begonia was included free of charge with the order. I have a question. I've read that the Angel Wings do not require quite as much humidity as the Rex Begonia's. Is it true?
Thumb of 2011-09-09/GardenGuyAZ/1bf17f

Also, I bought a used humidifier off Ebay for dirt cheap. It's a really nice one, has great reviews and ratings on the internet. It is an Essick Air 4-Speed Tower Humidifier, D46 720. Only paid $29.99 for it. Retail price on these is around $99 new. Oh, and that was with free shipping too. I couldn't believe it! It is reported to be an open store box, with no manual. But I found the manual on the internet.
Thumb of 2011-09-09/GardenGuyAZ/c38ff7

I'm planning on putting this humidifier in my office with my Rex Begonia and that Episcia I purchased, that you guys said would need very high humidity. Should the Angel Wing be fine with a pebble tray, or should I move it into my office too?

Episcias Pink Brocade.

I am so annoyed - I was trying to root a begonia cutting for ThreeGardens, and all the leaves fell off, and no roots! I've never let it go dry, but don't know why it's not rooting! I've never had problems before!! Grumbling

Am I the only one who craves to eat begonia flowers? As I child and even now I can barely resist. VERY bitter but I've always loved to eat them.

Alan, your new begonia's are beauties. I dont worry to much about humidity, I've had my ac going all summer and it tends to dry out my apartment, I do mist all my plants a few times a month

Forgive me if I showed this to you. I was in the process of putting some posts up last Friday when Barney, my 14 year old Jack Russell had something similar to a stroke and had to be put to sleep. I have been devastated. I did not remember if I ever posted this. I lost about 4 days just trying to adjust my life without my constant companion.

Thist is one of my Angel Wing Cane Like Begonia's babies first bloom.
The stock plant has never bloomed and I have been selling these praying they would do better and they are.

Have a nice day.

So sorry to hear of your loss, Jacquie. It will be difficult for some time. Frankly, sometimes you never heal from the loss of your companion. Never. ... and that's OK. It hurts but "better to have a loved and lost than never to have loved at all". I wept for my two guys Lex and Bert just today and I lost them 6 and 1 1/2 yrs ago respectively. And I have an adorable gal with me now that I do love. My Standard Poodles. Take good care and remember him often.
