The cold hit pretty hard...then they recovered in the warmth...guess it was past time to bring things in ...so in they have come..all left that's left put into a community container... Under a metal halide light they should bounce back and look good growing on top of one another

Yes, Gordon, I agree with the others and I love the muted colors on your begonia leaves. They will bounce back fine.

Here are a few pics of some of my other Begonias. Some of these are recouping from a short period of neglect but they are doing well now. Other than the Escargot I don't have names for these so if any of you can ID a few of them please speak out. I think the one with the ruffled leaves might be a beefsteak as the leaves get bigger they are less ruffly but even at their largest they have a bit of a ruffle at the edges.

What are folks' Begonias up to now? A couple pics I took today of Sinbad and Beefsteak.

Tiffany, very nice! I used to have both Angel Wing Begonia (Begonia 'Sinbad') and Beefsteak Begonia (Begonia 'Erythrophylla'). Seeing your Begonia Beefsteak reminded me to upload an old photo of mine to the database. Green Grin!

Janet, nice ones you have there too!! I don't know Begonia's all that well but your first one reminds me of one I grew a number of years back that was named Angel Wing Begonia (Begonia 'Lois Burke')

I've grown a few Rex types over the years too but they never seemed to do well unless I kept them in a terrarium. The Rexes have such gorgeous leaves!

Love the Beefsteak begonia. Memories of my grandmothers plant with leaves so large that I stole a leaf or two to make bonnets for my doll. Oh, I was chastised many times. Remember this from over 60 years ago. Wow! Now I need to find one.

What is a good source to find a Beefsteak Begonia? Can it be rooted in water?
I tried Logee's, very small for the price not including shipping. The Ieaves were okay but the stems were spindly and weak looking. It died after a couple of months.

You probably would need to order or trade for it. Stores usually have more fancy "Rex" Begonias & those suicidal Reigers. An owner-operated store would probably be your only shot as far as shopping in person.

Hurray! Hurray! Hurray! Thank You! Thank You! Thank You! @ivyplantsnyc & @purpleinopp for bringing up the subject of the Beefsteak Begonia!!!

It made me go tho the database to see exactly which one you were speaking of. I hadn't heard of it before.

I have a Begonia that was given to me many moons ago, by my sister, who also had no clue! Been searching for literally years for an ID. Bingo!!!!

Hurray! Hurray! Hurray! I have an ID!!!!! Hurray! Hurray! Hurray!
Thank You! Thank You! Thank You!

I'll have to go out and get a recent picture. It blooms well for me, but this bloom pic was in 2014.
