I was reading a book yesterday and they were discussing how when a plant gets stressed, it blooms trying to reproduce quickly because it "thinks" it's dying. So I'm thinking that could be contributing to so many of mine blooming this year.

I think it contributes to those of mine that are blooming. The established ones aren't a problem. The ones that are blooming out are those bought late in the season and were often quite stressed/abused at the time. If I can get them to put out offsets, then they should be good for future years here since this is about the ideal climate for them, provided we don't get another 20 minute hail storm.

I sure feel bad about your hail storm. 20 minutes is a long time! Sure is disheartening to go outside and see all your plants destroyed. I know from experience too.

It's ok, Chirs, it was last year. This year Audrey got the devastating hail.

Mine would be toast if that happened here. They are all out in the wide open spaces, no shelter at all.
We did have hail this spring, but it is nothing like what you all get.

Can an individual leaf root, Lynn?

No, sempervivum can't reproduce from a leaf. They can't do the same as many other types of succulents that can. I have some Aeonium starting right now from leaves. : )
