Mary you're going to be fine & Doris is going to be there to make sure of that. So breathe deep & enjoy & have fun!

Teresa, dh & I have a dear friend with lupus. She's done so much better since she lost some weight & also got herself a Wii to exercise by. It's thoroughly improved the way she feels. But lupus is serious stuff. Watch yourself & take care of yourself. Group hug

Lupus is serious alright. I also have a friend that has it. She goes to the local YMCA a lot to excersize and swim. She says that helps her a lot. There are different stages of the disease. My sister-in-law is around 35 years old also has Lupus and was diagnosed with it last year. At this point she has no symptoms. Take good care of yourself Teresa. I imagine tending to daylilies should be good therapy, right???

I plan on gardening more this Spring. I quit work to help with my family.

I am trying to walk more and eat better. Salsa and yoga too lol.

Thanks for the kind words, we all need support in different ways.

I have heard Lupus is very painful. I do hope it gets better for you.
Mary It will be so much fun and Doris will be right there and she is super. So glad you are going.

I agree on people here being wonderful. I am not sure why we feel that way in certain crowds sometimes. Our comfort zones are what they are i guess.

Yea, Mary!!!! Hurray! Hurray! Hurray!

Teresa, I could buy a LOT of daylilies if I followed the 10-for-1 plan. Hilarious! With this MS and a slew of other stuff, slow stretching--like that in yoga--helps. And I also took basic Tai Chi from the community college. It is slow and gentle (for the most part) and helped a lot with balance and flexibility. But nothing I've tried yet is better than working in the yard, so dig that dirt, girl. Sticking tongue out And, when you are talking of salsa, go with the edible kind, too! The peppers will release endorphins--you might still be uncomfortable, but you will at least THINK you feel better! Big Grin Green Grin!

Hi Mary!!!

I see the whole gang has been welcoming and enabling you while I was off getting a new laptop battery. I hope you have a fun at the meeting, it sounds like a blast. I saw Don & Nancy Eller give a talk at the 2010 Lilyhemmer meeting(Region 3's fall meeting). They are very entertaining and just all around nice folks. I think you'll enjoy yourself Green Grin!

Welcome Mary!

Realize that local daylily clubs are VERY inexpensive to join - mine is like $5 annually. The AHS is $25 I think - and you get one of the most beautiful magazines with well written articles.

Yeppers, daylilies are addicting, as all of us addicts will verify. I started out with a couple of daylilies and iris about 3 years ago... and am now up to over 100 daylilies, 40ish iris - and trying to figure out where I am going to build my next garden this summer.....

You are among friends (said in a sinister way....) ~Jan

I'm just a dabbler, really... recreational day-lilies, social day-lilies, that kind of thing. I can stop any time I want to, right? Whistling

(seriously, I'm not all that interested in the science behind it, the hybridiziing, etc. I just want pretty plants in my yard. Can I still play with y'all?)

Ha, I may have started it all with posting a few lovely photos but look what a wonderful support system has emerged from it all!!

The advice to get to a meeting is a good one and I am happy to see that you are braving it up and jumping right in, we want a full report!

I got hooked in a similar way, thought daylilies were just boring yellow and orange ones until my Mom, who was already in a daylily club invited me to tour a local members garden. I literally sat down next to one plant to get a close up view of the colors and 'sugar crusted' edges, had never seen anything like it! Wait until you get a real life glimpse of some of these new beauties in person, you may chuck the landscape daylilies (not that there's anything wrong with them!) just to have some of these wonders in your garden.
Remember, around here, people divide often and need new homes for those divisions so put the word if you want to adopt them.

Doris make sure those club members welcome MARY with open arms! Arms full of daylilies!

Mary will go home with a daylily. If Ann comes (LONG drive!), we will send her home with one, too. Any new member will receive an additional daylily at the February meeting.

And I'm positive that they will be thrilled to explain to you anything that you don't understand if you only ask. Who else have they to teach? And in doing so they are being enablers. You see? Daylily enablers are everywhere! Rolling on the floor laughing Rolling on the floor laughing

And NO, I will not be making that long drive. But Doris --- you got me to look for my local group & I found one in Lake City. I'm in trouble now! When the house is built & it comes time for plants ....... I can just see it now....... Sticking tongue out
