Oh good to know. It certainly looked really, really pretty in the website picture. I have lists of what, how much to order and where I intend to plant it all written down. I have been refining those lists and by the time Scheepers puts its prices and cart up to order I will be ready to actually get my order in.

Debra, you can 'force' the tulips. Just give them a cold spell in your refrigerator (I think 16 weeks) then plant them out in pots or right in the ground. When they are done, back to the frig. I think you have to dry them out first so they will not mold. Read this:

One Green World is having a sale on some of their bare root fruit trees. I just ordered two a minute ago. I bought both IVANS BEAUTY and IVANS BELLE hybrid Mountain Ash Trees. These are small trees suitable for a surban garden that produce lots of fruit that the backyard birds enjoy.

Right now I already have an IVANS BELLE plus both RABINA and ROSINA Mountain ash trees that I bought and planted from One Green World in 2006. I really love those mountain ash. They have friuted for the past two years but this past year heavily. I wasn't planning on buying more until I saw their sale so I thought why not? More winter fruit for the birds plus these are lovely small trees.

Just making up a small order from Rockytop Iris Gardens for our club auction. Club orders newer more expensive irises but plenty at a lower price for gardeners.

I am really going nuts with my bulb orders this year. I have been making lists at Scheepers all afternoon while I was deciding on what I would order there and what I would be getting at Brent and Beckies. So two down, ColorBlends and Brent&Beckies. Still to do are Scheepers and its wholesale division Van Engelen.

I think I have to try the reticulata. So many people sing its praises--and post photos to swoon over--that I must heed the call. Big Grin

I got my first orders from Hallson Gardens and Hosta Farm this week. I was a bit surprised by what I received, based on reviews that I'd read. I paid double for Hallson's versus Hosta Farms, and the latter was much bigger. Hallson's did send a bonus plant, but I would have actually preferred bigger plants of the ones I ordered.

Due to the weather here (frost and freeze stuff happening), and the Holiday weekend busy-ness I didn't get any pictures; I just got those babies settled. Smiling

[Edited to add update]

I really should check my email more often; I feel like a heel now.

I want to share the lovely note that I just now found from Hallson's.

Your Hallson Gardens order was shipped today by priority mail so you
should receive it around Wednesday or Thursday. The Hosta 'Frosted
Jade' are really slow to wake up, and they don't look like much right
now but should take off once things warm up. If your plant doesn't
continue to get larger over the next month or so let me know and I'll
see if we can find a bigger one for you. They are hard to find this
time of year, but I think it will be fine, just let me know if it
doesn't perform for you.

Thank you for your business!

Sincerely yours,

Chris Wilson

So, I'm a relieved and satisfied customer today. I'll definitely order from Hallson's again!

celle: now I am worried. I have an order with Hallsons due here next week.
He said the hostas were three year plants field grown bare rooted. I am looking for something better than the liners I got last summer from Hostas Direct. I was really disappointed in that order.
Hostas Direct was haveing a sale ( I shudda known ) inexpensive plants are just what I got, so I didnt over pay. The ad was clear I just had never ordered liners or plugs before.I will know better next time.

chelle, I have a order with Hallson's. Just got my order from New Hampshire Hosta and it was not good. Sad
I got in on the clearance sale with Hostas Direct last year and got mature divisions for 3.99 a piece, these hosta's have at least six eyes on each one and I really took advantage and ordered about 15.
chelle, are you saying hosta farm has the biggest plants? wow, never ordered from there but seems like someone mentioned them before, I will take a look at their website. I will order from them next time.
I have other hosta orders besides Hallson's so not sure of this year, unless they have 'Sharp Dressed Man' Green Grin!
chell, please post pictures. Hurray!

Susan.I think my order with Hostas Direct bwas the same sale. My plants were smaller.
Thats water over the dam now. Camelot is the first to appear.I am looking for the others but with cold weather things have slowed down. Princess Wu was dug up by squirrils .I found the dry stub a week later.
I might have to rethink Hallsons I like the guy but!!!

I'll get some pictures soonest.

I'm not that familiar with ordering hostas, but I do feel that my $16.50 plant (from Hallson's), in particular, was tiny. The roots looked good, and I'm sure it's healthy, but Blinking small.

Holicow what hosta did you get?
I am cheap and order the mid price. My hostas are planted where I rarely see them and serve to shade out weeds in 2 of the gardens that are on slanted angle.

I am unhappy with the way our muscari look this yr. They are usually quite nice, but I think they have suffered from the dryness. Flowers are tiny & very short stems. I will probably have to replace them. Katharine Hodgkin is plante next to a good size rock so I know where it is & can add some more.
