Chelle,

I have ordered from Hallson's twice and been satisfied with both orders, and also know that one's experience might be different from another person's. I am happy that it turned out well. Smiling

Me too! I ordered last year and he was very nice, I have a order in now and he allowed me to add two extra plants and did not charge me any extra postage. Green Grin!

You all are not going to believe this what I just did now. I have been looking at Scheepers and going to order there too but was looking at their selection of greigii tulips. Was looking for more so searching the net.

So wanting a nice selection I found a place that has a wonderful selection of greigii tulips and not the ones on Scheepers. Nothing wrong with the ones on Scheepers as I am going to get some of those also but I wanted more. Looking for newer varieties. So I found a place called Dutch Grown Bulbs From Holland. Apparently your order ships directly from Holland. Lovely selection. Only problem is that it was 100 of a variety at a time, no lesser quantities accepted and with a $150.00 minium order. Hey, you think that would stop me? Of course not! I am now the proud owner (or I will be when they get here this fall) of 400 greigii tulips. 100 each of 4 varieties. I picked GOLDWEST, LARGE COPPER, MARCH OF TIME and SUNDANCE. Honestly they were a bargain at $37.50 per 100 and only $22.00 shipping.

I know were they are going in this one daylily bed, I can make the 400 work. It is actually in a place I had thought not to even address this year but I guess those tulips are ment for my garden as I found them! It should be stunning come spring.

I am really trying to add not just my usual Darwins which return even though decline and my Triumph tulips that I adore and never return, but types are known to return year after year. That way I can have the best of both worlds. Greiggii are an early blooming perennial variety.

So measuring today that bed that I intend to put those tulips is 10 feet long by 4 1/2 feet wide. It has four rows of daylilies in it. Between the ones in the first row, I already have crocus ordered that I will put there. Between those daylily clumps in the last row will be planted daffodil bulbs in clusters. So that takes up some of the space. So the tulips have to go in the spaces between rows and also bewteen daylily clumps in rows 2 and three. Honestly, 400 is an aweful lot of bulbs for the area. I could have ordered less but that would not have worked as I wanted a mix of colors. So I considered 4 types the minium to get the mixed effect. Five might be better but no was could I have ordered another 100 bulbs so the four will do.

I will figgure it all out somehow.

2,156 bulbs ordered so far.

Is there a care center or childrens park or something close by that would be very happy to have a few of the 'extras'?

Marilyn, I figgure I would have even more bulbs than that already ordered except that I can't because places like Scheepers don't open for 2012 orders until mid May. I have lists here already of thousands of bulbs from Scheepers and Van Engelen (their wholesale division) that I will be ordering when they open for business. Like a list of about 3,000 bulbs. My head is spinning trying to figgure out some of my planting ideas. Today I was working on coming up with a plan mostly for the driveway side daylily slope that I have. I had always planned on adding bulbs there someday but it is a very difficult area to work with (steep hill not terraced) so the ideal is to plant them once and have them come back year after year. Not so easily done. Plus if I could have something early and then much later in the tulip bloom even better yet. So haven't figgured it all out yet but have figgured out some.

I went back to place were I bought the 400 greigii tulips (100 of four different kinds) and made another order. I did think that I could have planted those 400 on the slope instead of were they are planned but I like were they are planned so much that I just couldn't change my mind.

So started with 200 kaufmanniana tulips SHOWWINNER. Those are red low growing early blooming. I did find lots of pictures so that is about what I know for Kaufmannianna but I love vivid red and I love the idea of these being early. I plan on about 125 on the slope and about 75 in the mid yard upstairs daylily bed.

Then I ordered 100 bunch flowering tulips COLOR SPECTACLE. Gosh these things are beautiful. Yellow with red flames thru out. I searched and searched around to find them in a lesser quantity but not only couldn't find a lesser amount, I just could find it elsewhere at all. Going to put most in the terraces garden at each end of the second terrace between the daylilies. The rest I will put out in the front yard between the daylilies at each end of the belgium block mini terraces.

Then I needed to order another unit of 100 something to make my minium order requirements so I ordered 100 darwin tulips JEWEL OF SPRING. JEWEL OF SPRING along with whatever else I decide upon (need them to be darwins likely to come back) will be planted in daylily slope between the rows were the red really early tulips are going. I will plant them really deeply (the darwins) and hope for the best. Plus I will then add some greiggii on top. Still plotting this. I really am thinking some red COME BACK darwins and also looking at darwins WORLD PEACE at McClure and Zimmerman to be added to the Jewel of spring and all planted mixed together. I really want return on this slope as it will be really difficult to overplant again.

My head is just spinning from trying to figgure it all out and make it work out just the way I plan. I am big on planning.

chelle, I just got some Cyclamen with my order from Edelweiss Perennials, I got 2 dark pink and I also got a Kniphofia lily called 'Lola' I'm very excited about that one, it's a poker lily that gets six feet tall. Green Grin!
Besides that one and the ones I got today I got about 13 more orders including Mamajacks. I have a lot of stuff from Mamajacks besides the 52 daylily bulbs and Eucomis. I bought ten butterfly bushes and lots of pretty butterfly plants! This is all for my new butterfly garden! Hurray!
