How do you keep roses from growing up tall and not bush out?

I am sorry for this delayed reply to your gardening question. The spring rush has brought a deluge of questions and we are working hard to catch up!

Growth habit is largely part of the genetics of the bush. Some grow very upright such as most hybrid tea roses. On the other hand, many shrub roses are bushier while some other types of roses will form a groundcover if not tied to a support. You can create a little more bushiness by pruning and encouraging branching but there is only so much you can accomplish by pruning.

Thanks for the question. Best wishes for a wonderful gardening season. Please stop in again soon!
