When can I plant the bulbs that Home Depot is now selling? (Like Lily of the Valley, Bleeding Heart, Clematis)

You can plant the summer blooming bulbs in the spring, as soon as the soil can be worked. The earlier you get them into the ground the faster they will grow and flower. Dig up a shovelful of soil and squeeze a handful. If water runs out, it's too wet to work and you'll need to allow it to dry out. If it forms into a ball and you can easily break the ball with your fingers, it's just right for working and for planting. Enjoy your new plants!
