It just occurred to me that RpR was late to open a new thread for us, so I figured to do so. Here's to good eating in the new year!

Thanks for the new thread, Sean. Thumbs up

Easy Saturday dinner, hot dogs, DH had a yen for them once again, and Actifry French fries. I made a sugar pie this afternoon, it was going to be made for Christmas, but I didn't get around to it, Whistling won't be cut until tomorrow, it needs time to set.

Since we are traveling, it is cold meat and cheese sandwiches in the car. But, the bread is my homemade whole wheat, and I ground the wheat berries so that should count for something, Whistling

We're in Pittsburgh for a few days, visiting friends and family. It's sort of a late Christmas visit. Nothing healthy happening for me. I'm just sitting around eating and drinking, and sitting in the car as we drive from one house to another. And we drove 5.5 hours here, then will repeat tomorrow. Then 15 hours too Florida a week later. Not much sleep either for the past 2 nights. It will be another family gathering today, lots odd food and drink.

Drove 600 miles yesterday. The kitties are very good travelers. Some whining yesterday but not much. Settled down after 160 miles or so.

Found a jar of Ragu 4 cheese sauce in the cupboard. I probably bought it with my cats in mind. Large bowl of leftover (Instant Pot) steamed red potatoes. Some Williams Chili powder. Smoked garlic. Alder wood smoked sea salt. Defrost some pork. Kinda heavy, weird comfort food. But good.

Snack time. Dark rye bread, butter, creamy peanut butter, apricot powder. M/W for 18 sec.

Do not be afraid of using the right spices on everyday things. I always put some on hot dogs, scrambled eggs, grilled cheese sandwiches.

I am not a fan of rye bread, but the rest sounds good.

Try not to gasp, but tonight was a particularly healthy option dinner for me, and it really hit the mark. It was a chicken caesar salad, yet a little light on the chicken while right healthy with the anchovies. (Love them.) Finished with a fair bit of nice fresh parm. Just crackers on the side, and some 14 Hands white. I'm liking that blend, and although Karen's choice is the red, I credit her for leading me to try it.

Safe travels Kq, and to you Anna, too. (Glad the kitties are travelling well; mine doesn't.)

They are loving sleeping on the king sized bed in the room. They even graciously share it with us, their staff. They are not allowed in our bedroom at home. It is the only room other than the junk porch where they are not allowed. They travelled good again today but sure like getting out of the travelling tube even tho it is spacious and has a soft kitty bed in it.

Anna, happy to hear that travel with the kitties went well. They are are going to be miffed when you get back home and they are not allowed to sleep in your bed. Hilarious!

Sort of healthy for us, striploin steak, cooked perfectly medium rare, and a nice mixed salad.

I had a small dinner party Saturday evening, served Lasagna, salad, roasted caramelized carrots, steamed mixed vegetables, garlic bread, and Bananas Foster for desert. Merlot was flowing freely. Smiling

Last night I was invited to some friends to celebrate "Día de Los Tres Reyes Magos" (Three Wise Kings Day") Dinner was a pot luck of many Mexican foods, but the highlight of the evening was sharing of the Rosca de Reyes, which is a round sweet bread that had embedded in it several plastic baby Jesus replicas. The first person who gets the doll in his or her piece must host a party on February 2, Candelaria Day.

As a child, we always kept our Christmas tree up until "Three Kings Day" (or Epiphany) but we didn't have any celebration for the day, other then going to church.

Heavy on the vegetables yesterday as I am trying to loose the 4 pounds I gained over the Holidays. Come to think of it I had no meat. Didn't miss it.

Today I had two egg rolls for lunch and am having a Subway Tuna Sandwich for dinner.

Have to stay away from the sweets for desert or I will not be able to loose my 4 pounds that I need to get rid of. Gained over the Holidays.

Lucky you Rosie! He cooks!

We returned from our weekend in Pittsburgh with leftovers from the family party yesterday- Italian hot sausage in sauce with peppers and onions, served on (also leftover) hoagy buns. Yummy.

Here I'm working on the things on hand. Tonight I dug out a piece of trimmed rib eye from the freezer. Gave that a steak rub treatment and enjoyed it with garlic and herb skillet potatoes, and warmed spinach with balsamic -- cooked in the same skillet as the potatoes, and with the same oil/butter mix. It worked well. Noble Vines 337 Cab. It's the D.O.'s birthday...only problem is that the Dear Other is in Cuba. Still, the mini-celebration with a right decent meal for one.
