I have about six acres in the Tex hill country near Fredericksburg and as far as I can tell there is only one of these trees on my property. It may be a common tree but I can't find it in my searches. Anyone know what it is?

It reminds me a bit of Loquat (Rhaphiolepis bibas) but I've never known them to produce fruit at this time of year.

I'll move this page over to the Plant Identification forum where it will get more views and hopefully someone will be able to offer a correct ID.

Can you break open a fruit and show us the inside? Does it lose its leaves in winter? What were the flowers like?

All the leaves will drop. Here is the fruit. I will have to resurrect this post in the spring when I get a photo of the flowers. I know they were small and the bees loved them but that's all.

From what I can see of the leaves and the bark, it does resemble loquat and your last photo of the sliced un-ripe fruit looks right. Do you recall seeing flowers that resembled those below?

I do have one more question... I looked at the links you provided but the fruit on my tree stay tiny. They never get big enough to eat. Why might this be? The land was unimproved when we bought it, so I assume a bird? contributed the seed for the tree years ago?

The fruits in your photo look like unripe loquats but it may very well be some other type of tree.

Loquat fruits are small, approximately 1 to 1.5 inches, ripening from green to yellow to a darker yellowish-orange.

Hopefully others will chime in with suggestions and possible ID.

The only other tree it kinda reminds me of is Crabapple but I don't know a thing about them, time of year they produce fruit, etc.

Thank you for the additional information! I think it is a Prairie or Blanco Crabapple which is endemic to the Hill Country. Lady Bird Johnson Park has some and I will go by there next week to compare to mine. The fruit is supposed to be less than 1/2 inch and that sounds more like mine.

I still feel that the leaves and fruit grouping is more like Loquat.

It looks like Loquat to me too. They are all over the place in my community. It is a very tasty sweet fruit when ripe, but be careful where you throw the seeds down. They will come up. I bet the birds have a feast when that fruit ripens. Smiling

Tree in yard S.W. corner of Missouri. Can anyone tell what it is? It has lots of tiny fragrant blooms every summer. (3rd photo) They are shaped like little bells. No fruit that anyone has noted.
The tree is rather small about 15-20 ft. tall I noted the leaves and the way the blooms cling to the branch nodes. Thanks in advance.

Your question will get more attention if you pose it in a separate thread.
