Thread OP

I bought a house and just moved in a couple of months ago - I have no idea what kind of rose this is, does anyone have any ideas?

Welcome to NGA, luciditys. It looks like a very healthy hybrid tea rose. There are so many that produce blooms of all those colors. One that has been popular for 30 years is Rio Samba. Take a look at all of the different colors of its blooms in this link.

Thank you! That is very helpful. I don't know anything about caring for roses - how often should I prune it? As soon as the flowers wilt?

Pruning usually is done once a year or not at all, depending on the age of the rose bush and your location. Deadheading is what you want to do when the flowers are spent. Cut the stem with the spent bloom off the rose bush just above the closest node producing five leaves. That will encourage reblooming.

I also thought of Rio Samba when I saw your photo, which I also grow (see examples of mine below). You have a beautiful plant, with vibrant blooms and very healthy, disease-free foliage. I'm curious to know your climate, and where you're located.

Thank you! Good to know, I'll be doing that! I'm located in the PNW, if that helps.

Those are really lovely! I'm in the PNW, this particular bush is planted in my backyard, where there's no shade at all from trees and it's facing east, so lots of morning sunshine.

Thank you! Aw, that is too bad. I'm in the PNW so it's wet and cold for like, 8 months of the year. It has been very dry this summer though, we didn't get any rain for over a month so I've been watering it every few days.

It is too bad, but, I'm in 6A, northeastern Ohio and our winters would kill it. The rose is just gorgeous.

Looks to me like it might be a floribunda Carisma. A favorite of mine. Sadly I lost during our last severe storms. We are on the Great South Bay of Long Island.

Although the colors resemble Charisma, a floribunda would have multiple blooms per stem. You can tell this is a hybrid tea, because it has a single bloom per stem.

As noted by others and via Google Lens, it is a Rio Samba

Yes, very similar in color of various blossoms. The difference is that Joseph's Coat only blooms in large sprays on long, lanky canes after the 2nd year. It's usually marketed as a climber.

I think it is Joseph's Coat

This original poster's rose is a typical hybrid tea with single blooms on long stems, not a climber like Joseph's Coat with multiple blooms on short stems branching off long arching canes. This is an older photo of my Joseph's Coat climbing up the left side of the garden gate, which has a ceramic tile placed in the center of it.

When trying to identify an unknown rose, it helps to look at the form, shape and structure of a rose (as well as its leaves), not just the color of its blooms.
