Most people haven't had it. My folks had a cabin on Oak Creek in AZ. Watercress used to grow there in the old days. We also caught fabulous Rainbow Trout for dinner. Long ago watercress sandwiches used to be popular, especially in the UK.

We loved Oak Creek the few times we have driven thru there. How wonderful it must have been to have a cabin there. Smiling

It was while it lasted. My parents got it in the 50's. It was on Forest Service land as a lease, and in the 70's they took it all away and reclaimed the land for campgrounds.

It was heartbreaking. We kids got to have such fun there, and our kids were enjoying it too. My dad loved fishing. He fished every day so our freezers were full of fish.

Rolling on the floor laughing Rolling on the floor laughing Rolling on the floor laughing I used to be like that, but I do love salads now, and some green veggies.
We'd better get back to figs! Sorry Gina.

Heck no, Karen, apology absolutely not needed! I'm enjoying this conversation. Howdy, Margaret!

The weather sure seems to be unseasonably cold this year. Overnights still in the low 40s. It fooled me a couple of times already. I put out a pound of CA poppy seed thinking we'd be getting nice weather, but only a handful have come up. I keep hoping they will sprout any day now, but I think it's a lost cause at this point. Every time I start getting pissy about it, I remind myself what others in colder zones must be going through and chastise myself for being petty. Plus, I keep hoping it will equate to a cooler summer. Fact is, all the trees are doing well putting out new growth and that is where the real benefit is at this point.

I unloaded 1.8 tons of planter soil from a local landscape company this winter and I am somewhat disappointed. Some things are doing okay in it, but two of my creeping Rosemary are drying out. There seems to have formed a crusty top layer. So I aerriated it using a pitchfork to get some water under the crust... I guess I should have watered while shoveling it off the truck. Live and learn. I also used it in my hoop house, so now I gotta pull half of it out, mix in some native sand, and take it back in. The Fava beans took to it, so that is my silver lining as that is a deep bed using the top of a discarded dog kennel for the base.

I am doing the gardening double-step this year! D'Oh! . Whistling

When we filled the greenhouse beds, we bought soil from a landscaper. It was awful, mostly clay with lots of rocks. We had to buy many bags of things to enrich it so we could use it at all. It's been 4 years and it's been good, but now I think I need to amend it all again, as soon as I can move the plants outside. We had a freeze last night....again....it seems like it's a never ending winter.

Here in Florida our little lizards are typically called Geckos same as in Hawaii. I don't know if that is scientifically correct but there are excellent hunters talking care of bugs for us.

You're lucky to have the geckos, Jerome. We had them when we lived in the Marshall Islands. They even lived in our homes and I loved hearing them chirping to each other. They are slightly different, but very cute.

Sometime we get two fig crops with the june/july being bigger figs than the crop in august/september. This year 2019 is one with the double crop....yea!
