Hi folks! I read posts a lot and never comment, but I have to say... I adore this tool! I have used mine quite a bit this spring, with very little damage to the fans or roots. Although it's a challenge to wrestle the clump out of the ground (I like to leave much of the heavy Tennessee clay on the rootball for this, which makes it harder to remove) once on top of the ground, the daylily divider works almost magically well for me. It's important to carefully choose where to place the tines between fans and be decisive about the downward action (like using a pitchfork) to be sure that the short tines are working on the crown area. If the tines were longer, I suspect there might be more damage to the roots. I have the shorter version and it's easy to divide the clump, with the roots separating beautifully. I'm tall, and I think either would work fine for me. The best part for me is that I can leave LOTS of soil on the sections, and the plant barely even notices it was divided, so it keeps right on growing, without much shock. With this tool, it's a lot less painful to divide more often (reducing the wrestling the rootball bit). It's pretty amazing how well it works. i know I must sound like an ad. But I'm so grateful for this tool! It wasn't cheap but no regrets. Ordered it directly from the maker, who was helpful and very nice.
