Thread OP

Hello,

I have had my rising since redbud for 3 years and I noticed this the other day. The tree has flowered and leafed the last 2 years and the leaves are healthy.

Is this a canker or is this just a "normal" part of the tree?

That sure appears to be a canker-like problem. Provide good cultural conditions (moisture during droughty times, adequate nutrition), and inquire at your county extension service office for information for treatment of such situation.

Not every pathogen can be resolved with only good health otherwise, but it does't hurt while you are seeking treatment.
