I am thinking of growing some berries, but since I live on the Blackland Prairies of Central Texas, I'll need to be careful which ones, as some aren't well adapted.

I heavy have clay soil that sometimes stays waterlogged longer than I'd like, hot summers, and fairly mild (zone 8b) winters.

I hear blackberries can grow here, but not raspberries. Rabbiteye blueberries are the only blueberries to attempt, and strawberries I might try in modified soil.

But what about the cross-breeds and less common berries? I assume dewberries will work since blackberries will. Would boysenberries, tayberries, or loganberries? Barberries (Berberis vulgaris)? Any other berries?

At the moment the only berry that I know will work is the blackberry, which is my least favorite, so I'd appreciate suggestions.
