Ursula beautiful blooms! I have to say, that is a lot of patience!

TJoe that is so cute! A true bonsai! It would be fun to put it side by side with a can of soda. Hurray!

Beautiful, Ursula! Long-awaited blooms are so exciting!

When I saw the buds on the one really strong, stiffly upright stem of mine, I cut off all of the other weak, floppy stuff and stuck other plants with much more attractive foliage in the pot to use the valuable space. If I only need that 1 stem, that's fine with me. I never wanted a large specimen anyway, just a bloom or 2 once in a while.

Ric-rac, OTOH, is cool enough for my taste to devote more space. Decisions, decisions...!

Tiffany, go for it! I wonder, if that banana peel really added something to make it bloom. Or was that coincidence?

Thanks Gigi for the Acorn too! Smiling

I'm a firm believer in the banana peel!! It's never failed to work for me for a plant that "should" be blooming but isn't. By should, I mean it is mature, it's the right time of year, hasn't been stressed by extreme temps, or gotten too dry or wet, isn't under insect stress, soil is not weird - just not blooming for no good reason.

You can do the lazy lay-the-peel on soil surface at the base of ground plants, or pureรฉ with water to dose potted plants. "banana water" I'm intrigued that I think you are saying you laid a peel on the soil surface of a potted plant? I might have once or twice, as impulsive as I am, but I don't remember doing it that way.

There are a lot of old wives' tales out there, but I think the banana/banana water thing is a thing, not just a gimmick. Or worse, one of those "recipes" that is more likely to kill a plat than cause the aid supposedly attached to it.

I suppose dosing potted plants too often could cause some kind of problem (more than just fungus gnats), but I've never "overdosed" a potted plant with banana peel the way I have with fert, sunlight, water, cold, heat. And it would take piles of peels to negatively affect a big Gardenia or rose bush. ...if anybody can send me a few more of each of those & a few piles of bananas, I'll be happy to file a report. LOL!!!

Oh, want to see the length of the adeniums? It is short, slightly less than 5 inch. Don't have soda can, put it side by side with a cup, and a tea box with the same height as Coca-Cola can.

.
I am also a believer of banana peel. But I always have the peel fermented before using it as fertilizer. Never use it for succulents, only applied that on fruits and other tropicals. It can also reactivate dead soil. I have a plant that grown in a pot for than 20 years, never repot / change media. Until one day I realized the soil can not absorb any water at all, regardless how much water that we put into the pot, the water just get out of the drain holes and the media remains dry. Then I applied the banana peels fertilizer, after the 2nd application, the soil can absorb water already.

The formula that I use:
- use a 15 liters bottle
- 1/3 of banana peels
- 2/3 of water
- 1 spoon of sugar (to feed the bacteria)
- 1 spoon of rice/potato ( need some carbo for the bacteria to grow)
Let it fermented in the shade for 2 weeks to 1 year. Beware that during the fermentation process, there will be a lot of CO2 gas produced, the bottle may explode, I have made special cap to allow slow release of the gas.

Dilute the banana juice with watet 1 : 50 during application.

The bonsai Adenium is wonderful!

That recipe sounds like a lot more work. I've made lazy compost tea by letting pulled weeds steep in a bucket of water for a week or two, but not anything as specific as your recipe.

That is a traditional ground gardening technique for crops for harvest. Is it connected to the 3 sisters? I don't remember. Not something I would think about in the realm of cacti/succulents. But having never tried, it's just my own thoughts.

I agree about the bonsai adenium. I have used banana peel on and off but not sure if it was good as I can't recall the results.

And I didn't miss it this time /

I think it is supposed to be fragrant but I forgot to sniff it. Hope it blooms again.

First bloom attempt I didn't get to see. I am uploading the blooms so I can document how many times a year this blooms or if it is capable of multi bloom like online.

Any once a year and one time bloomer will have very little space in my garden.
