95°F/35°C today - another very hot and dry day this summer - daylilies and other plants in my garden suffer although the irrigation system is running every morning. Few flowers left - I was very surprised to see these two nearly perfect flowers in the evening (8 p.m.)

Char, your pictures are lovely. I want to comment on how lush and green the foliage looks on your plants.

Will, I'll bet South Seas will rebloom for you. Mine always does. That first gold NoID is really nice. I'm going to order Genesta this fall and see how it does this far south.

OK, what do you think? After I posted the picture of Take Me Along, I noticed that it looked a lot like the NoID we just named Captain Dewey. What do you think?

Take Me Along:

Captain Dewey:
Thumb of 2022-08-06/DeweyRooter/a777be

As I have explained, Captain Dewey was sold to me as South Seas, but I know it isn't because it is growing right next to my first South Seas, and it's a noticeably different plant. However, Take Me Along is a child plant of South Seas. So at the very least they are probably related. They are both reblooming now. They aren't next to each other, so I did not notice the similarity until posting pictures today.

The place I bought Captain Dewey from is Bluestone Perennials; they usually carry daylilies but not always the same ones, and they aren't listing either South Seas or Take Me Along at the moment.

They are VERY similar. One reads just a little bit more peachy to my eyes, and the other seems to have a touch more green in the throat. But it could just be the camera angle or some other variable.

They definitely look similar to me, Nan. I have a plant called Magenta Kisses that will vary it's face that far depending on the heat and sun. It looks like it could be the same plant under different conditions to me.

I agree, Hawkeye. Take Me Along looks a shade lighter and has more green in the throat in the pictures. But the pictures weren't taken at the same time. I took the Take Me Along picture this morning and the one of Captain Dewey yesterday or the day before; I don't remember what time. I am going to try to catch them blooming at the same time and do another comparison. I think they each have one or two more buds, so I may get lucky.

I looked at all my photos of 'Take Me Along' and saw much more variation in them than I did in the two photos you posted. So I think that your NOID is 'Take Me Along'.
I don't know of any plant I grow that looks exactly the same in every photo. I would plant them side by side and see how close all the characteristics of the plants look to each other. I just think looking at the two photos it is the same. It is such a great plant, outstanding in my garden, I don't think it would be hard to spot an imposter after a year of side by side growth.

Larry, I will try that. I will move Captain Dewey so that it is next to Take Me Along instead of being next to South Seas. My Take Me Along is a new plant, so maybe with another year under its belt it will reach its full height. And I will be able to do a side-by-side comparison with Captain Dewey.

Thanks to everyone who has offered an opinion. I'm glad you don't all think I am crazy! Smiling
