Which low growing ground cover to use in shaded areas in zone 7. Concerned about winter kill?

I'm in Zone 7, in Arizona. Around here, Vinca minor is such a successful ground cover that's it's considered invasive.
It stays low, is green all year, and has nice periwinkle-colored flowers from time to time.
It does tend to get out of hand, I cut it to the ground with the string trimmer at least once a year. It always comes back strong. I also dig out the strays to keep it from taking over. No issue at all with snow and cold, or drought. It might die back a little, but nothing seems to kill it.
Main downside I see is mice use it for cover. Keeping it cut back does help with this.

Vinca performs but I would Only use it where you have good access to control all edges. I use it around my mailbox and a tree, bordered by pavement and lawn, it really does not try to creep out much there.

Where vinca crawls into a shrub and roots, it will forever be sending out new vines. I have that going on, plus an unkept area from another neighbors side where its coveeing the ground. Since finding a dead rat in my yard, I am beating back that vinca and Hedera helix ivy. It is good cover for rodents.
Plant it and they will come.
