This is difficult in identifying my favorites from this past year as I love them all. My criteria will be based upon performance and clump strength.

I agree on Bonnie Corley, so distinctive and pretty. Love all the bloom and clump shots Nan, Jill and David. Perfect timing for some color after a gray day here. Picking Time looks amazing!

I have been reluctant to post anything here because I don't often take photos of registered plants. Mine are mostly seedlings, and I posted them in the July seedlings thread. I often visit that thread just as a reminder of what my own seedlings look like! I have to say that I am a great deal like David, and I tend to evaluate them based on clump strength. The weaker ones will eventually get weeded out. I am finding it more difficult to take care of so many, so this year I need to take out a good many clumps- and that is going to be one tough decision of which ones have to go....

Great pictures everyone! Thanks for sharing.

Deryll, that's such a fun picture! I wish I had that much space.

I know how hard it is to decide what should go, I haven't gotten rid of anything yet but next year I am going to have to start making decisions on things. Too many seedlings, and not enough room Sad

Wow Deryll! That is definitely going to be a tough decision. I'm getting in the same situation as you. I find that not only am I downsizing my daylilies, but am also considering letting an area go back to lawn. It may be a few years, but I do see it eventually.

Curtis, thank you for starting this thread. So fun to look back through the year on everyone's favorites.

@blue23rose Vickie, like you, Fooled Me is one of my favorites. I just wished it would rebloom. Your clump of Hit the Road Jack is great. "Clarification" is the star!

@Char "Pause and Reflect" is such an unusual flower. I don't remember seeing anything like that in a garden.

@Hazelcrestmikeb Mike, your photo of "Saved Soul" shows it so well. You should consider uploading that photo to the database.

@DeweyRooter Nan, I can't wait for "Insider Trading" to start blooming in my garden. From the photos, I see why it is a favorite.

@Jillz Your favorites are such a fashion statement! I'd love to see your garden in bloom.

@Bedmaker David, "Megatron" is mega-awesome! I just added that to my want list.

@Deryll I so wish I were close enough to drive and see your garden in person ... and maybe load a couple of those clumps into the back of my car!

Most of my daylilies are immature - only 1-2 years in the ground - so it is hard to pick favorites. For this past year, I think my "favorites" are the ones that I know will bloom reliably. These are the ones I would give to a novice daylily gardener because I know they have a high probability of succeeding.

No 1 on my list is Hello Screamer. It forms a great clump with blooms above the foliage.

No 2 is Nippon. It is not a registered daylily, but it is vigorous and reliable for me.

No 3 is Final Touch. This bud-builder goes on and on until first frost.

One of the "newer to my garden" favorites is "Thank Your Lucky Stars". It didn't bloom in its first year, but put out lots of scapes this year, including reblooms, and lots of proliferations.

I'm hoping as my newer plants mature - the ones with pretty faces, big flowers, tall scapes - some of them will prove equally reliable as the old favorites.

Thanks, Lori. Smiling That's a beautiful shot of Thank Your Lucky Stars! I also have Hello Screamer and you are right, it forms a nice clump and I'm glad that the blooms are well over the foliage. Mine has done well ever since I got it 7 years ago.

Love these pictures. David, yours are great, but I especially love the pics of Vision Seeker and Salty Skipper. Lori, I've never seen Nippon, but it's very pretty--just the kind of daylily I love. Deryll, like everyone else I am dazzled by your picture. I can't imagine how you are going to cull anything.

I like a lot of daylilies for a lot of reasons, so I'll try to do some justice for what they did in 2023.

Bitsy can easily be underestimated because it's just a small yellow flower, but it bloomed continuously for 105 days for me this year.

Time is Nigh and Tree Turtles were both dug up and shared very late in the fall of '22, but both recovered and bloomed over 7 weeks for me again this fall.

I'm so lucky with my seedlings, but just a couple highlights:

My Keepsake Rosie x Nana Nance seedlings seemed more photogenic than normal.
Thumb of 2023-12-03/Lyshack/849164

And first time bloomer, 06-016-03, gave me a large, unusual form (spider-ish?) bloom in colors that are reminiscent of Victoria Josephine. It has some work to do. The scape was thin and needed support of a small maple tree twig this year, but fingers crossed it can get a little more beefy in years to come. But that stupid maple tree provides enough sticks for me to work with it. I did get a small pod to set on it. We'll find out if the seeds are viable in February.

Thank You! guys for your wonderful comments. Unfortunately, my time has come to where things need to be cut back. I was struggling to keep up this year and it was a losing battle. I did buy a new rototiller and that might help- but taking out 1000 clumps will be a big help! Our club is hosting the Region 2 tour in July, and I am hoping for a few visitors to stop by.

Lori, I am sad that you are so far as well. You would have a field day!

I have had Hello Screamer for many years also, and it does great here as well... I also have virtual knockoffs of quite a few plants from other growers because I have used some of the same stock plants. This is my seedling similar to Two Sues- although the actual color is more melon pink than in this photo. I think it has a somewhat dated look, but it is a good garden plant that is fully dormant, and I use it in crosses as I might with the real Two Sues... and it didn't cost me anything! Hilarious!

Tim, you have some long bloomers with Bitsy and the others. And those seedlings would rival any named daylily. That is a beautiful shot of Brickle Road!

Deryll, that is a nice looking seedling. I can't imagine taking out 1000 clumps. Here's hoping lots of folks help you out by taking some next summer. Crossing Fingers!
