I might try that Lynn, and see how well they do compared to some sown in doors. Last year my seedlings did very well inside, but didn't grow much after I put them outside. Maybe the really poor start to the summer didn't help, they had a lot of recovering to do after lots of late hail, rain and cool temps. So it would be fun to compare how well the out door grown ones do.

I have grown many different seeds using this method. I would think it could work for the semps seeds also.
I will use a potting mix with a nice layer of seed starting mix over the top.

Thanks Kevin and Lynn I may just plant some of the seeds and see how winter growing works here.

I often start seeds inside under lights and may try some there too.

Lynn,

Loved your article. Of course my problem is excess. I would have to find a dairy or a family with 18 children to have enough bottles. I just got through planting 7K iris seeds, for example. That was in ~200 8" pots.

I do like the "mini cold frame" aspect of the process. I have long sheets of Remay that I cover the pots after germination has occurred and if it's getting cold. That protects down to 22F and I am in a very protected location. My front yard has only had frost once since I've lived here.
