I saw these pretty things at a lodge outside Park City Utah, last weekend. Altitude was about 6000ft.

They're about 4ft tall but have been neatly pruned so no reference as to how big they might get.

Foliage looks like a salvia, but it has round, twiggy stems, not square. Has an aromatic scent somewhat like lavender but neither leaves nor flowers resemble lavender.

There were deer around every day but they didn't touch it.

Maybe one of the Bluebeards? Wouldn't begin to figure out which one though. But now you've got me a bit interested in it too, to maybe add to my perennial bed when I widen it this fall.

Elaine, that's a Caryopteris species, possibly this, but there are several cultivars.

I adore it — trouble free and a bee & butterfly magnet. Definitely xeric — obviously it does well in climates like Utah and New Mexico, not sure how it would take to Florida. Blooms mid August to frost here.

Thanks, I think you've nailed it! What a lovely thing it is, I was thinking of planting at my daughter's house in Salt Lake, not in Florida. I'm sure it would be unhappy with the humidity there.

Also considering adding my pics to the database, but none of them are very clear, because it was windy every day that we were there. (that's my excuse and I'm stickin' to it!).

Those are exceptional examples! There are plenty of close-ups in the database. Your photos show how big they can get. There's a beautiful big specimen in a nearby cemetery, the only place I've seen one close to the size in your photos.
