Hiya, Krissy. I live in NW IN. I grow mainly shrubs and perennials with a few veg wherever there's an opening. Grow some herbs in pots that I bring indoors over the winter. Check out the "weather and everything else" thread for daily regional off-topic chat if you'd like.

Welcome! @KrissyRose
I'm Susan, and I live in Western Canada (Alberta, actually, in the foothills). I have a large veggie garden, and various flower gardens. We're still inundated with snow, so will patiently wait for Spring Hilarious!
I love growing herbs, and my current crop is sprouts in the kitchen. I don't have a basement, nor much of a size home, so other than houseplants, all my gardening & prep is done outside. Whistling

My name is Diego, and I live in a small apartment in Sioux City, IA. I await the Spring, as it has been a long winter. My interest is in Wildflowers, actually.

I want to start growing some annuals come this Spring. I am new to the idea of growing them myself. Previously, I always enjoyed pictures or other people's gardens. This year, I also intend to go out into the field to see them in their natural environment. I have been able to purchase the better guidebooks for this purpose.

When I was a boy in Southern California, I grew up living IN Anza Borrego State Park, where Mother worked. We enjoyed the wildflower season each year.

So, does anyone have any hints for a "newbie" in the field? Any advice would be well received. Thanks!

Welcome Diego, you can't go wrong growing Purple Coneflower, a wildflower that's failsafe. New England Asters and Rudbeckias are also great. Another I'd recommend is Great Blue Lobelia (part shade).
Some of the Rudbeckis are annuals.
Some good old annuals are Nasturtiums, 4'oclocks, Flowering Tobacco, and sunflowers.
Nothing that's been done can ever be changed.

Welcome, Diego! You've come to the right place for advice. There is a treasure trove of information on anything gardening your heart desires.

Since you live in an apartment, I am wondering how much space you have available for growing wildflowers? That might help determine what kind to grow. I think you will find a lot of help on this forum:

Hi, Diego - welcome! Are you wanting to grow wildflower annuals or do you have a plot for perennial wildflowers? Here's a decent source for native plants if that's your interest.

Welcome Diego - Welcome! Welcome! I'm from central Iowa and love wildflowers. It would help to know if you are growing inside, outside somewhere, in pots, or in the ground. I have woodland wildflowers that I love that come up in Spring (you should have some parks near you where you could enjoy these too if they have wooded areas, and I agree with the coneflowers and rudbeckias and the others that jmorth mentioned. He has gorgeous gardens.

Hi Diego,
Wildflowers are a good way to enjoy the bees and butterflies. You'll have to get out and see what grows in the country. Googling your area is a good way to see what grows there too. It's good to research zones and difficulties. Do you have a place to grow things?

I myself love the orange butterfly weed, asters, beebalm, blazing stars, tall american bellflower, vervain, wild blue phlox and yarrow.

Hi everyone. I'm Barb. Fairly new to this site. I live in Packer Country. I'm in a small 3,000 pop. city 20 or so miles from Green Bay. I grow everything I can in my short growing season. Flowers came first, then veggies, then hostas and huecheras. If hubby would let me, he'd never have to mow a blade. But, alas, I have to wait for him to be gone for a few days so I can start yet another plot. Three years ago I started using raised beds for vegetables. First year was sketchy, but last year was plum! Cabin fever so bad here I planted peas and green beans in pots (I think we'll have an early spring). Don't be alarmed. My dog Maddie ate my pea plant and the leaves off my bean. But my tomatoes and jalapenos are a couple inches high and I've learned I can't just follow the sun inside without putting up barricades for the dogs.
