Okay, Patty's place at 10:30?
Then on to Dancing Oaks with our sack lunches?
Marco Polo at 6:30 p.m.

Connie, are you coming to Patty's place, and Dancing Oaks? What about Hortlandia on Sunday? You could come in my car?

Anyone else going to Hortlandia on Sunday?

10:30 here sounds good, ok to show up earlier, and I'll have snacks, OR would folks like a quick brunch? It's nice to have something to look forward to - I am already tired of winter and this rain!

Loving my "F2" Smiling but the time difference has been a challenge with his schedule Crying

Lynn, I'll try to make Friday's doings. Chances are I will make Patty's place and Dancing Oaks. No problem finding it, I know the backroad way. Another thing or two has come up in April that will take precedence but I don't have exact dates.

I don't plan on going to Hortlandia but if I do I will make it up there myself (thanks Lynn!). I'm afraid if I go I will buy nice stuff, spend a lot of money, then it will all die in the pot ghetto because right now I just don't have room for more. The timing of the fall Salem sale is better for me but remember last year some important vendors didn't show Sad .

Hopefully the fall Salem sale will have a better vendor attendance this year. I added you to the schedule for Friday at Patty's and then Dancing Oaks. So glad you are coming to those.
I know what you mean about buying plants and having a plant ghetto. I am happy to say that I only have maybe 5 plants that are not in permanent homes now. First time in years I have done this well with getting them into permanent homes. Hurray!

I wouldn't have this problem if I had more acreage, or should I say, any acreage! I will have a couple of orders totaling around15 new lilies arriving in April and I need to work on room for those. Much more costly than semps (new intros $35 each) and if they sit in pots they die! I have never had good luck growing lilies in pots Sad .

I, too, am glad to hear that we will see Connie at least for part of a day! Connie, I have been practicing (and it ain't easy) to window shop no matter where I go. I have managed to perfect the art of exiting empty handed as I have meandered thru antique malls , flea markets, swap meets, and a few events of craft shows that have spilled over into two or three buildings. My hubby is real proud of me and is not so scared going to those places with me now. Mostly those times have been where I am looking for inspiration for new ideas.

I agree I need you to tree your address Patty, to get to your house! Lucky Julia, with a living, breathing navigator in her car...but it needs to be fed though, right?

Bev, I do have a hard time passing stuff up, especially plants. Looking for inspiration is the way to go. You don't have to fit it in your car. Or in my case the front seat and floorboard of my truck and a little space behind the seats. That alone limits me Hilarious! . I keep thinking I need to buy a real car but I don't want two vehicles since it is just me.

Really won't know until the week or days before as it depends on how the babies are doing... but I have at least laid out some groundwork by mentioning it to my wife. Big Grin

OFM,

Good luck with all that's going on. There are things in Salem to keep kids amused such as the Carillon and parks if your wife wants to come to Salem too. Toby had his kids here last year and his wife did the parks and shopping and everyone was happy while Toby and I did the plant thing.

@JunlgeShadows Kevin, how are you semps seeds doing in this very mild weather we are having? Have they stated germinating?

Lynn,

I just started planting yesterday. It was a very STILL day and, as you know, the semp seeds are TINY so you need a calm day or your seeds are blown into the next county. Got 75 pots planted yesterday and hope to finish up the rest this week.

As I was planting this, I was thinking "Maybe Ed Skrocki had it right. It would have been easier just to mix them up and plant" but of course then you have no idea which is a good parent and which isn't. Also after making all those tedious hand crosses it will be tough NOT to see how the cross came out.

I find your method to be the superior method.
I am also finding that the heuffelii seem to set a lot more seed that the other types of sempervivum.

Kevin your going to be planting seedlings all summer!
Lynn interesting about the heuffelii seeds.

I started a few seeds in the greenhouse in a nursery flat, we don't drink anything that comes in those plastic jugs. This is the pod parents: noid dark heuffellii, Fat Jack, Bedazzled, Apple Blossom and Silver king.

Just the bees working to make these seeds but it's fun. The other seedlings from last year are growing well but not much coloration. However they are holding up to the weather and not much rot.
