My friend Bex's Uncle Ben is 92 and still going, I was going to say going strong, but he's fading a bit. Every inch of him is a gardener, really...every inch because his last name is so apropos...Gardner. he plants his 48 acres with Aussies, trees, heathers...vegetables. Every vegetable garden I've had before has had its share of problems, gophers, squirrels, rabbits, but not rac coons. So now I have raccoons and what can I expect from them? I was going to have Bex ask Ben about the coons and what other problems he has with which critters. This is the first year that he's grown corn, that may be due to the changing climate here, he's right on the water...friends 7 miles inland from me grow pumpkins now where many years ago they could not. Ben depends on his vegetable garden, he LIVES for his vegetable garden...loves it. He has elk and bear and venison in his freezer, goes up to Bandon yearly for cranberries from friends for his freezer. He's 92...and really, at 92, you just don't know...this could be his last vegetable garden...or not...he may do many more yet....and I was going to ask him about raccoons....
and his neighboors cows got out and destroyed his garden...we have a considerably short growing season for many things, you do not easily recover from something like this...and I was going to ask about my problem with raccoons...
Feeling humbled and blessed....
