Gigi, is your Amaryllis in a pot? You can put it in the ground if you want.

Good info Bea!

Yes Tiffany they are in pots. They were in the ground before and when they go dormant it used to make me worry they won't grow back! Hilarious!

Spent the afternoon in one of the dahlia sections of the garden . Lots of lil critters on the flowers. I soak and wash all before bringing in so many big and lil spiders to tiny thrips smaller than a drop of water.

Wow! Now Bea, are these plants annuals that you have to regrow every year? Same question with Joseph about the Morning Glory?

That must be a lot of work to grow these many annuals every year. Or are these left in the ground or pots and come back following year?

If I put anything on the ground the weeds will overgrow and overtake my garden. I got this yellow hibiscus rescue.

Gigi..
Oh wowweee Hurray! Now that's a gorgeous yellow hibiscusโ€ฆ Lovey dubby Lovey dubby

Not a annual in the bunchโ€ฆmost are mature plants.

I control weeds in my green beds using bark chips medium size and use pre emergents granules in spring . And many other ways to deal with the weeds . It's always a hassle no matter what works there's always weeds.

And the grass in Florida spreads so fast with runners . The rain an warm temps can just about turn any garden into a nightmare of plants, tree and shrubs if they all are not managed , kept in check especially when mature growth can quickly get overwhelming. Lots of sandy soil in Fla. Raised or built up beds would have a better quality of soil for flower beds and easier for weed control.

In thee or four months of growing period here all the plants grow like they are on steroidsโ€ฆa huge amount of growth in a short period of time. They are all mature plants with good root systems. I planted every single one. I never use chemical fertilizer in any garden beds. Several reasons, one is they turn into chemical dependent junkies to grow rather than adjust to the soil and nutrients in the prepared soil beds.

There's always a lot to mange with any garden. The native soil here is hard pack clay. Nothing grows well in hard clay but weedsโ€ฆAll the garden beds here are all raised beds using 8-10" of mushroom compost . And I make lots compost with the regular supply of horse manure topping the garden beds every season.

You can have nice garden beds it is always possible no matter where you live . Building raised beds is the ticket.

I do have some annuals will add them in the next post.

To many flowers trees and shrubs to name . Anyone interested in a particular pic or plant just askโ€ฆI will be happy to ID.
This time of the year the garden looks a bit tattered. Heatwave has effected several areas.

Thank You! For the acornโ€ฆ and Thumbs up always appreciatedโ€ฆso much effort and planning has gone into the garden all in built up beds and raised beds.

The temp is 94 today โ€ฆ overcast and hoping for the coastal winds to kick in soon. Had to dial up the watering schedule.

Haven't had to turn on the air on yet.. All the trees I planted around the garden seem to help keep the house cool and the garden shaded. So not to burned. There are areas if close up pics where leaves are scalded and browned . There were no trees here , no shade so that was my first plan for the garden. Planning for the bones of the gardenโ€ฆ
