Gigi..
Oh wowweee
Now that's a gorgeous yellow hibiscusโฆ
Not a annual in the bunchโฆmost are mature plants.
I control weeds in my green beds using bark chips medium size and use pre emergents granules in spring . And many other ways to deal with the weeds . It's always a hassle no matter what works there's always weeds.
And the grass in Florida spreads so fast with runners . The rain an warm temps can just about turn any garden into a nightmare of plants, tree and shrubs if they all are not managed , kept in check especially when mature growth can quickly get overwhelming. Lots of sandy soil in Fla. Raised or built up beds would have a better quality of soil for flower beds and easier for weed control.
In thee or four months of growing period here all the plants grow like they are on steroidsโฆa huge amount of growth in a short period of time. They are all mature plants with good root systems. I planted every single one. I never use chemical fertilizer in any garden beds. Several reasons, one is they turn into chemical dependent junkies to grow rather than adjust to the soil and nutrients in the prepared soil beds.
There's always a lot to mange with any garden. The native soil here is hard pack clay. Nothing grows well in hard clay but weedsโฆAll the garden beds here are all raised beds using 8-10" of mushroom compost . And I make lots compost with the regular supply of horse manure topping the garden beds every season.
You can have nice garden beds it is always possible no matter where you live . Building raised beds is the ticket.
I do have some annuals will add them in the next post.
