Just started poking their heads out: Tulip humilis Violacea Way to early, had to get out the plantskydd. Looked at the pics from last year, it shows the tulips at this stage around Mar 23, about 3 weeks early. Last year was about 2-3 weeks early from the previous year. Yikes.
As Yogi Berra said, “It's tough to make predictions, especially about the future.”
I placed my Spring lily bulb order with The Lily Garden this week! If I receive everything should be 30 bulbs, 3ea of 10dif. I really love receiving the package and looking through it when it comes.
I used to order lily bulbs from bleek's co-op, however there wasn't one this year. I have lilies in pots from last year that need to be planted in the garden. I already have so many other lilies in the garden that can be divided and spread around, so no lily order for me so far this year.
I ordered;Ariadne,Eros,White Butterflies,Yellow Whoppers,Istanbul,Red Velvet, Night Flyer,Pizzaz,Sizzleand Caravan. It was a pleasant chat with Judith who was apparently dealing with a cold. I enthusiastically recommend The Lily Garden!
I find the down to outfacing flowers very attractive. Many have smaller flowers but they have many of them. I planted a number of lily bulbs from The Lily Garden last Fall as well. I am really looking forward to the Spring/Summer bloom season this year!
Me too. In the newly arranged joined bed out front. Now under about 2-3' of snow. but that's okay. Also protected from single digit weather we are having, with the occasional sub-zero night. Has too end soon. Totally clear skies for the next ten days which unfortunately is accompanied by cold temps. At least the wind has died down. That was brutal.
Betsy, are those forced bulbs? I had several hyacinths that looked like yours last year. They sprouted early and then we had extreme cold that messed up the buds and blooms. Another thought that came to mind was if your bulbs had enough cold period to bloom properly- if the duration of the cold spell is too short or if it isn't cold enough the blooms can be stunted.

I bought this Ornithogalum dubium out of the bargain bin in a GC last summer for the princely sum of fifty pence. Since my last failed attempt with this species I have done a little more research and so when I got it home it went under the bench for a summer bake whilst it was dormant. It came back into growth in the autumn and it spent the winter in the porch where it is quite cool. So cool that the leaves against the window got scorched when it turned cold outside so I moved it into the cool spare room where buds soon started to emerge. Here it is today.................
Thanks! Winter blooming South African bulbs are fun if challenging in our climate. Lachenalia aloides is not performing at all well this winter despite getting the same treatment up to the point at which the Ornithogalums leaves got scorched
I love those winter blooming bulbs, and used to grow a few when I had a cool room to keep them happy- cyclamen were a bright happy winter plant I enjoyed. A local grocery store often has ornithogalum plants in bloom. I've been tempted, but I heat with wood and don't have a room I can close off and keep cool. Dry wood heat is tough on all the house plants, but I do have some amaryllis blooming beautifully right now.
My amaryllis are cranking this year! One pot has 6 blooming stems and another has 4. I'll snap some photos today

The crocus gift bulbs I got and planted last December is still doing okay, happy they endured our rainy winter months. Lovely and warm today, so they are blooming much more nicely.
My ornithogalum dubium is just starting to show its bloomstalk..coming soon!
