Thread OP

Our landscaper went nuts with the mulch today and completely covered my hosta bed with mulch. Do I need to uncover the bed to let the hostas start poking through the ground or will they come up through the mulch?

It might depend on the type and depth of the mulch. I have a good friend who has large oaks in his back yard and many Hostas, He doesn't rake the leaves and they just rot through the summer and add to the quality of his soil. I have one bed that is covered with long pine needles each spring, Some years I do better at cleanup than others and the Hostas come up through the needles. Might be a good idea to watch as they come up and rake the mulch away a few inches from the plant.
