Lots and lots of months to go yet until the season is over, for them to make fresh scapes. Shrug!

I guess it is the equivalent of a deer munching them. If a deer does this early Spring, do they still come back the same year or no? My season is too late to know these things. Thinking

Yes, they do, that is if you can stop the deer from continuing to munch them. If I ever have a day when it is not horribly windy, I need to spray with Liquid Fence. The stuff is too expensive to spray in the wind and have it go everywhere but where you need it. However I don't know if they will bloom later once they have set scapes, buds and begun to bloom like Nan's. Hope they recover and do bloom for her.

Also want to spray weeds but that's even more dependent upon a calm day.

Today was a busy day, I got out early to start watering. I finished that job just before lunch. I got all the daylilies and all the new plants watered, felt great to get that round of watering done.
After lunch I got busy trimming the holly hedge and all the shrubs left in the front and side. That was a big job and I hauled off at least four cart loads of clippings. It was about 4:00 p.m. when I finished that chore. I had noticed a few blooms during the day while working but I was so tired I just rode the mower around looking and taking photos. Several registered plants and several seedlings were opened. That late in the afternoon is not a great time for photos, and most of the blooms had not opened fully so I won't bother posting them, took those photos mostly just to log in first blooms in my plant step program. Already found one misnamed plant, a gift back in the fall that bloomed today. A lovely double bloom, but not what it should have been.
Here is a list of what was blooming today as I rode around:
Life Is A Highway
Whooperee
Pandora's Charm
Quasimodo
Webster's Red Bloomers
Lava Flow
Pleated Perfection
Riot On The Kindergarten Bus
Tar and Feather
Yellow NOID
So while I was riding around I took some photos of the back beds that don't feature daylilies, some ferns, hostas, amaryllis, etc. These beds could still use a lot of clean up but for now they will have to do till I can get caught up on other stuff.

"Well, last time I ran over Whatachmacallit (an excellent rebloomer) when it was full of scapes and buds. All the buds died and came off, and it never bloomed at all that year. It did continue growing just fine and bloomed the next year."
Ummmmm, "last time"? Rolling my eyes.
Nan, please put up a nice garden border that makes a huge racket when you start to run over it, so you can stop before you get to the daylilies. I doubt your backing skills will improve. Mine sure haven't. D'Oh! Sticking tongue out

7 different plants with blooms today nodding we're on the way now Hurray!

In other news, I decided to pot up the leafless remnant from critter lunch noted a couple days ago. Just a bit of white was showing above the crown. Today, I noted that this white bit had turned green so maybe the plant is saved Crossing Fingers! for now.

Next, I dug up a separate decidedly poor looking specimen, figuring it might have a chance Crossing Fingers! if I potted it....and found a SF with no apial but an axial underground white leaf coming up. This was potted up with just the leave tip showing. Then I found the two sad leaves on the other piece were part of a 4 fan clump Blinking Blinking two crowns that had an axial white leaf starting to come up, a second crown had an apial small green leaf and the two leaf crown that ended up with a single leaf after putting the crown clump into a 12" pot. I'm not sure of the cultivar but it's a fighter; don't understand the crown issues and don't ever recall seeing it have 4 or 5 crowns with leaves. A couple of recovery room plants previously replaced in another location were back planted into the open area.

Not as much as I'd have liked! Helped hubby rake the bank by our lane to remove the leaves matting down the fescue. We burned some of the debris in the ditch, however I'll need to go out tomorrow and rake all of it up. Mowed side yard and top bank behind the house. Finally got around to doing some planting and mulching. After raking tomorrow morning I hope to spend the whole day planting.

Yesterday I cut down the god forsaken Trumpet Vine that invaded my original seedling bed. What a nightmare. I planted it on the fence due to the insistence of DW. She didn't want to hear that this was a very, very, very Grumbling bad idea. I relented. There was a huge one by the hospital where she used to work (retired). It was surrounded by concrete and black top. Based on that she couldn't have forseen this catastrophe coming. The sawzall came in handy. I will be moving the plants out of this area for now.

This morning I planted a few more daylilies and my remaining heucherella, mulched and watered. After a couple of hours outside my hands were too cold to continue so called it a day!

Today I cleaned out the garage. We are having a dig here at my house on May 15th for the region 14 plant table sales and I wanted to get things cleaned and cleared up a bit before hand. Next I need to clean and organized under the deck where I store my pots.
I had one bed down in the bog that is at a pretty steep angle and when I would water the water would tend to run off. Adding more mulch fixed that problem and the bed looks much nicer now also. Already have more beds needing mulch, hard to believe as heavy as I laid it on it can be thin already.
Took some photos, nothing really looking good yet, things don't open early and then they fade quickly so far.

Though I didn't accomplish as much as I wanted to, I scrubbed some of my large planters and planted annuals in one of them. Fertilized the newest daylilies; planted the three heuchera I bought last week at the Farmers' Market; and began to clean and weed another garden bed beside the driveway. Pruned one of the hydrangeas; one of them is leafing out too fully to prune now. I should have trimmed that one back in the Fall - oh well, maybe next Fall. Will continue in that bed tomorrow morning and try to get some more things planted - the Shooting Stars, ferns and maybe a few of the Hellebores.

I only had time to count fans on Middle and Back Daylily Hill. That only leaves Upper Daylily Hill to go, and there aren't that many plants I keep track of up there.

This morning I cleaned out the back fountain and got the water flowing back through the pump. It really needed a cleaning pretty bad. Got some mowing done then finally got around to washing the mower, it was past due a bath. Took a few photos and logged them all in. Spread some more mulch in a few bare spots.
This afternoon after supper I went back out spread some fertilizer and started another round of watering, still no rain predicted anytime soon. Finished just as it was starting to get dark just managed to finish the upper beds outside the fence. I have a lot more watering to do tomorrow.
Yesterday my gas line trimmer refused to start, I think it had old gas. I emptied that out but did not have any oil to mix with the gas, but the timing was perfect being Lowe's notified me the line trimmer attachment I had ordered that attaches to my battery powered edger had arrived. I ran up to Lowe's and picked it up, I was a little leary of it being able to do the job and a little concerned about how easy it would be to attach it. No need to worry, it works great and needed no tools to attach it, two minutes time to do it.

That's great, Larry. I have never been able to use an edger like that; they are just too heavy for me. DH does use one, but he mainly cuts back stuff in our ditch with it. I wish he would edge my daylily beds, but he never seems to have time. Oh, well.

I'm having mulch installed this year because I found a guy that would do it for a very reasonable price and he uses an edger so I won't have to hand dig my edges this year! I've just been too busy to get to all the early Spring chores. Busy is good but I knew this would be the problem with all my Covid expansions, once real life started getting in the way.

I took advantage of Pike's Free Ladybug Weekend. They were giving away a free packet of ladybugs with any purchase. I scored two packs when the nice lady in front of me didn't want hers and was confused as to why they were giving them away. Smiling

Indeed!

Lowe's currently has 25 qt bags of Miracle Grow Potting Mix on sale - 2 for $16 - so I bought ten bags this morning, plus some potted Autumn ferns. This sale goes to May 1st, while quantities last.

This afternoon I planted my large pots that I place along the sidewalk with many of the annuals I bought a few weeks ago. I think our nights are now ( Crossing Fingers! ) past frost, though last date here is some time in early to mid-May. I wanted to plant some of my raised beds with seeds, couldn't find the seeds! Grumbling So I thought I'd put my wind spinners and chimes up on the porch. I remembered where I had stored all the spinners last Fall when I took them down, could not remember where I put the wind chimes and haven't found them yet! Grumbling I may have to begin putting notes in the calendar when I take them down as to where I stored them. Whistling Hilarious!
