It is indeed a gorgeous 'blue as blue can get'. And I do grow it in central Illinois - 4 years now, I think. It was purchased by my wife at a garden outlet site in Springfield, Il. (state capital). It was already in standard form (looking like a small tree). Sapphire Showers is tropical in nature, I first noted the plant growing in Houston (where if cold, it would die back to the ground, but arise again with favorable temps). Anyway, here it's grown in a quite large pot. It is moved to the basement before the real cold gets here. There it sits receiving light from a bank of overhead fluorescents till spring temps are favorable. It losses probably 3/4th of it's leaf coverage over winter but readily bounces back when re-introduced outside. Quite the butterfly and moth magnet over summer outside. And, our plant is not for sale. I did try a leaf cutting in water that did grow roots but expired at it's first attempt to pot.
You should be able to find it for sale out there in California.Another consideration to consider - I think there are several cultivars besides Sapphire Showers, some deep blues included, there's even a variegated leaf one.
