There are closed, self-contained, plant containers (not sure of the boundary of definitions for "terrarium") which have been unopened for decades and continue to grow. So having airflow in or out is not actually necessary, and can sometimes do more harm.
It depends on what you were growing, how, and what microbes/viruses/spores are already present.
