Cannas and Elephant ears both need moist soil and part shade. They can be grown in big containers.

It is a good idea to add some lime to the soil when planting cannas. If grown in the ground mulch around the cannas to keep moisture in. In the fall add more mulch to protect rhizomes from the cold weather.

Elephant Ears like soil that is rich in organic materials, avoid rocky soils which can deform the corms. Use a nitrogen rich fertilizer for Elephant Ears.
