Hello, newbie here in zone 7b.
I have 3/4 acre that is basically a blank slate, aside from one massive issue smack dab in the center of my back yard (see photo).
The in-ground pool is gorgeous, the white fence shown around it is ugly vinyl (photo makes it look better than it is). Plus it was not properly installed by previous owners (long story) and will not support plants.
The fence is a must due to insurance issues. Materials that make the most sense for fencing in my zone are limited to vinyl (the salt air eats wood and other materials) which I really hate looking at. That plus it needs to be pressure washed yearly due to moss.
I've decided to work with what I've got and cover the entire fence with shrubs that won't need support and vines (that will) due to issues with the fence. I will also place large planters around the pool with annuals.
Lynwood Gold Forsythia is the main shrub I'm think of due to it's fast growth and hardiness.
Viburnum plicatum, mock orange/Philadelphus, and Hydrangea paniculata is also on my list.
I've hit a roadblock with planting (not spacing). Should I stagger, should I plant inside and outside the fence (or both) or should I do a straight line inside or out or both, or something else?
