@UrbanWild, I went back and looked at your first photos again. It doesn't look like you could even slip cardboard between them so that you could paint the chain link. I'll bet it isn't easy to hang your art on it, either. What you've done so far looks pretty good to me. Better than the old wood fence behind yours.
