Well, this is its first year and it's only about 3-1/2' tall so far. But I love it! I think it's very graceful...

The blooms this month have certainly been august.

Here is Frans Hals on a rebloom scape. In the database it says that it is not a rebloom, so do you think that it was just a rare occurence, or that Frans Hals is a reblooming daylily?

I think sometimes some scapes start growing later than others. Maybe that could be the case with your Frans Hal. I had that happen a lot this spring. I would have a flower blooming on a well developed scape and I could see other scapes on the same plant not ready to bloom for at least a week or so.

Jon - The hybridizer was from Indiana so I'm guessing that maybe it wasn't a rebloomer in his zone??

Thanks Mike Smiling Roman Cohort is really nice! This has certainly been one bloom season to remember. Everything started a week to 10 days later than normal and then by the end of July the new ffo's were right on a normal timetable so that had almost everything blooming at the same time for 2 weeks, including all the seedlings. It was wild out there and oh so much fun!

Jon, I agree with dormantsrule, registration is based on how a plant behaves in the hybridizers garden and it may not have rebloomed there.

The temps have been cold, 46f yesterday morning and really messing up the blooms so only a few left over images to share. Maybe with the return to warmer temps the remaining blooms will be up to being photographed by the end of the week.

Empire Queen, pretty yellow with wide ruffles and lightly relief sculpted.

Merciful Monks, a small one at 3 1/2"

Rosa Parks, a saturated violet red with watermark, I like how it gets darker toward the edge.

Tall Blonde, tall, yellow, extra large blooms with a substance like plastic.

So here it is 2:15am in the wee small hrs.of the morning, and I am sitting here looking at all these wonderful blooms. I was not as enthusiastic about my blooms this summer compared to last year. It had nothing to do with the daylilies, they sent up scape after scape of buds. It was the weather here. Just too many cold mornings, and not enough heat.In the middle of July we had mornings in the mid 50's and low 60's. I lost of ton of half opened buds to the weather.

Here are some example of some plants I never showed you from the garden because of the poor cold morning openings.

FROM THE SEA (GASKINS) Late bloomer- struggled to open, smaller bloom, splotchy color. This is a sweet lily that opened and bloomed beautifully last summer.

Thumb of 2014-08-21/ARoseblush/1dad3b

I was so excited to see the big bulbous buds on daylily, IMAGINE (Gaskins) this summer. It was a cherished sdlg. DF when it arrived last year as one of the last intros the Gaskins introduced before they retired late last summer. It did not bloom last summer. In early August I took this picture of the plant. Buckets of rain later and some very cold mornings, and the only bloom I have seen is the following bloom which did not open all the way.

Thumb of 2014-08-21/ARoseblush/256872

That is the best shot I have of this bloom. There are 3 more blooms on the scape that might give me another look but its getting very late in the season. If it opens before next Wednesday when we are expected to have some hot weather, I will be very pleased.

Thumb of 2014-08-21/ARoseblush/5d2504

Here is a picture from Gaskins website of what 'Imagine' should look like. Quite a difference!!

And yet another example of another daylily that has suffered from the cold mornings

Thumb of 2014-08-21/ARoseblush/fd5a61

JOURNEY OF MAGIC- This plant bloomed last year and is truly lovely. JOM had about 20 buds on 2 scapes and this is the only bloom that partially opened. All 19 buds were nipped by the cold weather is the past 2 weeks and fell off the plant.

When the bloom season starts 2 weeks late after such a bitter cold Winter like we experienced in VT last year, it really has an effect on the late blooming plants because of our short growing season here.

I still have plants blooming brave souls that they are. Some that are still delighting me are some of my seedlings. I snapped this picture this morning.

Thumb of 2014-08-21/ARoseblush/b7d9e9

SDLG. FANTASTIC FRINGE X ROYAL CYPHER - Great substance on this bloom, very hearty, and has a few more blooms to go. Color is a little more muted because of the cooler conditions. Also, Janet & Bill X Four Eyes has another bloom to go, as well as Cutting Loose X Gaskins A-103. My 2nd favorite sdlg., Fourth of 'July in Georgia X Deadiest Catch' finished blooming last weekend. Love it.

And yet another plant that is loaded with buds and hasn't yet bloomed this year is COUNT YOUR ASSETS. Another late bloomer. For the most part, the season is winding down. So sad.

Alex, I can't help but agree with you in regard to this summer's weather patterns and effects on the garden. July was a disappointment in many regards with the cool overnight temps and mornings and it affected more than daylilies here. Glads and cannas took a hit, in fact my cannas are only trying to start to bloom. Through July they seemed to be frozen in time as if someone had hit a "pause" button. We've had some warm nights recently and growth and blooms seem directly related. Glads from small corms fizzled, larger corms send up stems of muddy, half-hearted blooms.

At least we have the internet to enjoy other people's gardens and flowers. As for daylilies all I really have left are seed pods to watch over

Alex, it is disheartening when one waits 8 months or so for the daylily season and then it's a bust because of poor weather conditions. It is nice that you have seedlings to give you a lift. I really like that shot of Can't Touch This.

jon, I don't think the data base says 'Frans Hals' is not a re-bloomer, it just does not list it as a re-bloomer. As I understand it, the hybridizer lists the traits of the daylily in their own garden. So in Texas 'Frans Hals' could very well be a re-bloomer, this is where comments would come in very handy in the data base. Local information on plants would be very helpful. That is a beautiful daylily by the way!

Hurray! Hurray! Hurray! for re-blooms Jon! I just love them! We are lucky that our season is so long that we can have re-blooms on many dl's. It's a little something that helps to make up for the interminable, broiling summers we have. Thumbs up

VIcki.... What can you do about the weather? It is what it is. Grin and bear it. My disappointment is only that I want to see all my daylily's bloom to the best of there ability without outside influence controlling there beauty. The good news is that 99% of the plants all sent up scapes. The few that did not bloom this Summer were new to the garden this year. I was really happy with the 18 seedlings that did bloom this year. That really made my summer interesting. And I managed to collect and store a ton of new found pollen.

Betty.....I love your Jurrassic Pink. I have a couple of seedling crosses planted in July with JP. Good seeing your pictures of the plant from your garden. Lovely. Thumbs up
